Great article! A few years ago I got rid of any ornament that did not hold sentimental value. If I couldn’t remember who gave it to me, it went out to good will. Now I have one small and very special box of ornaments.

I was disappointed with point number two. I think throwing away wrapping paper is wasteful & irresponsible. I would suggest refraining from buying new, just using the old until it’s gone or (if like me you have gone crazy during those after Christmas sales, using social media to see if you know anyone who needs some, before they go out and buy new.
Also, for anyone who doesn’t want to always have plain paper but would still like to keep they’re paper to a minimum, you can always pick a classic style for birthdays & another for Christmas.

Oh of course we wouldn’t throw out nice old wrapping paper that could be given away or used again :), I was referring to those recyclable wrinkled up or too small scraps that no longer can be of use in wrapping gifts but fill up our closets and bins to make us feel disorganized and our house cluttered. Sorry I didn’t make that distinction clear!

Long years ago, I wrapped all my gifts in white paper and tied them up with red ribbon. I’ve done different things over the years including using brown packing paper with plaid ribbon. These days I’m back to favoring white paper and use banner paper from the office supply store. Simple ribbons or colorful string with a bit of greenery or cones is vey festive to me.

Oh, and the rolls of banner paper do double duty as cushioning paper in shipping packages so I only store one thing.

I love decorating with fresh greens so they can all go to compost after the holidays. Less stuff to store and I can always find an evergreen that needs trimming or a branch that was felled a recent storm.
