Here’s a really easy Christmas decorating idea for you, as seen in my Christmas house tour this week (and some from last year, too!) ! I had a few questions on how I made them, so here’s the scoop.
For the antique blue mason jar (I found mine at a local second hand store but you can order similar ones here), I simply added a little bit of artificial snow (you can also find it at Michaels Craft or craft/garden stores) to the bottom of the jar and set a small bottle brush tree inside! There is no need to glue it down, unless you plan to shake the snow globe to make it snow. In that case, you might want to adhere it. For the clear mason jar snow globe, we hot glue gunned the tree to the lid before screwing it back together again and setting it upside down!
If you want snow for the globe, it’s easy to add it into the jar while it is upright, before you screw on the lid and flip it over. You can also get fancy and add cute little animals (we used a fox last year like this one), or add multiple small trees!
You can put your mason jars up on chunky candlesticks for a little more prominence! Easy peasy DONE!

LOVE! those are just about the sweetest things ever. I am in love with bottle brush trees, and it’s amazing the cuteness added when they sit in jars. :)
Hey Melissa,
Amazingly beautiful idea. Thanks for sharing the giveaway. Going to try it today :)
Happy Holidays!!
You can also just use Epsom salt for the snow.
Yes, except if you want to get the snowing/snow globe effect when you shake the jar, then a lighter fluffier type of “snow” works a little better!
Love this times ten =) I have a few blue vintage mason jars that would work perfect for this. Thanks for sharing
I too use epsom salts. And I save it from year to year, storing it in a ziplock bag. I have these little vignettes all over the house, and it’s fun to search for tiny things to put in them…trees, reindeer, stacks of packages, snowflakes. I like to make them and give them as hostess gifts especially in a type of glass jar or canister that can be repurposed for storage by the recipient.
I’m interested in the blue glass “jug” lamp you have on a dresser by the gray door (entry area? at front door?). Did you make it, or where can I find one for my bedroom? I LOVE it!!! Thank you. Your home is beautiful and I’m an avid fan of Jack & Lilly via Facebook.
Thank you so much, Cindy! Glad you enjoy Jack and Lily, too :) I did make the lamp! Here’s the post with the details: https://theinspiredroom.net/2013/06/26/how-to-make-a-lamp-diy-bottle-lamp/
Melissa, this is such a cute and creative idea! I love how it turned out! I also love your kitchen backsplash. I would love to know what the grout color is when you get the chance?!
Yes, it’s Oyster Gray, here’s the post on it. Thanks :-) https://theinspiredroom.net/2012/08/21/subway-tile-grout-width-oyster-gray/
Awesome! I will check out the post. Thanks, Melissa!!
Did you make the P E A C E hanging letters? Love them!
Yes I did, thank you!
