Do you see it? That little book on my shelf with my name on it? Y’all. I WROTE A BOOK AND IT IS HERE IN MY OFFICE! It’s not released yet so don’t worry, you haven’t missed it. But soon! March 31! I held it in my hands for the first time yesterday. Honestly, it feels like I just had a baby that I’ve been waiting for so long to see!
Eight years ago, in January of 2007, I started The Inspired Room as a decorating business to help other women create a home they loved, right where they were with what they already had. I had been passionate about creating a beautiful home, one that wasn’t for show, but rather for beautiful living. You see, while I enjoyed decorating my home and making things around me more lovely, I was really more into how it felt to live there. I wanted my home to feel beautiful to me. I didn’t care about trends or shopping or decorating for show. I saw my home as my sanctuary and I wanted others to feel that same sense of peace with their home.
It brought me joy to improve my home and take care of it, but I didn’t have a big budget to buy new things nor did I have the patience or skill to DIY or craft them. I loved to surround myself with things that were meaningful. That was my thing, embracing authenticity and simple beauty in my home. In July, I started the blog on a whim. The Inspired Room blog was a unique mix of all the topics I felt were important to finding contentment at home. I’ve stayed true to that mission.
Never in a million years did I imagine that more than a few of you would ever be out there reading or sharing this journey with me all these years later! AHHH!!! I just can’t even believe it! Much to my surprise, my rambling stories, thoughts, ideas, and imperfections resonated with fellow house-lovers!
At first there were just a few readers out there, somewhere, in the big black universe.
I shared more of my heart and what embracing authenticity and finding contentment with my home meant to me.
Many of you returned, saying you feel the same way or that you were encouraged to try new things or to see your home in a new way.
You became my friends. Blogging wasn’t about posting pretty pictures or projects, it was simply about sharing the experience of creating a home and going through life one blog post at a time (with nearly eight years of updates, that’s a lot of posts!)
Many of you have been here through the ups and downs, the move to the house I have now, and the very slow process of creating this place I now call home.
Two years ago, you all gave me the courage to put those years of home stories, experiences, those simple but meaningful ideas, and those bits of encouragement into a book. A real life, hold it in your hand BOOK. This first book (which is the first of eight!), Love The Home You Have, was born after years of forming of a philosophy that was shaped through six different houses, nearly twenty years of homemaking and so many years of blogging.
This is the message I am passionate about.
This is the encouragement I need to remind myself of along the journey of creating a home, because I know how freeing, empowering and inspiring it is to love the home you have even when it isn’t always in its most lovable state. The foundational things I share in this book are what inspire ME to remember to show love to my home whenever I lose my way.
After this book, this fall, my second book (The Inspired Room) will be released. That book is going to be special in its own way too (a full color coffee table book!) and will expand upon the foundation of this first book. I can’t wait to share more about it soon.
Below you can see our happy faces posing with the book right after we opened it and held it for the first time! My daughter Courtney has been such a huge help to me through this process of book writing, I don’t know how I would have gotten through all this hard work without her! Her input was invaluable. I wanted this message to encourage her as she starts her home journey as much as it inspires me to keep on keeping on! We both put our hearts into this to make sure it was the gift we wanted to offer others, too.
Until yesterday, it was still a book I could only read online, in an electronic PDF. I still couldn’t actually believe it was real, until I opened that package Monday and held it in my own hands. Friends, IT IS BEAUTIFUL! My publisher and the artist did an amazing job at creating a book that is SO special!
It’s a paperback book of encouraging words, but it’s also an extraordinarily fun and happy two-color book filled with meaningful and pretty hand-drawn quotes and sweet little illustrations. The cover is so soft and smooth, the letters and art are embossed and it feels like a dream! It isn’t just beautiful though, it’s TOUCHABLE. While you can preorder this book in electronic form, it’s really the kind of book you want to have in real life, to put on your shelf, to set on your nightstand, to curl up with by the fire. I can’t stop hugging it, stroking it, and taking photos of it from every angle! It’s just cute.
Okay, that almost sounded like the crazy cat lady. But it’s true, I love it so much I want to put little bows on it. And set it in a basket. And put it on a rainbow. And put it in my bed. :)
I can’t wait until you all can hold it in your own hands, too. The photos cannot do it justice.
I just wanted to thank you all again for your support on this wild journey. I have several more quite exciting things I created especially for you that I can reveal in the coming weeks (eek!). This whole experience really would not be the same without you to share it with.
One thing I’m really excited to share is that Barnes & Noble is offering you guys an AMAZING deal on the preorder of Love the Home You Have on March 9 and 10th! How does 50% off the print version sound?!!!!! SERIOUSLY, that is amazing and a rare opportunity. I know they don’t offer that kind of deal often. In fact, it’s a one time deal on this book. It’s a two day only sale so I will remind you as it gets closer so you won’t miss it. It would be a wonderful time to buy yourself and a friend a book, or stock up for gifts for a new bride or homeowner! :)
***Giveaway is now closed!!!***
I’m SO grateful to everyone who has offered their help to make sure this book gets out into the world. If you are able to share on your own social media, emails, or with friends and family about the book or the 50% off sale, that would be SO AMAZING!!! Soon I’ll be sharing a link to fun artwork and downloadable quotes from the book that you can use for yourself and to help me to spread the word about the book. Thank you!

Sounds like you have 4 children … 2 girls, a boy, and a book! Congratulations.
and two dogs! :)
What a great idea for a book! I want to fall in love with my house again like when we purchased it 10 years ago!
SO excited for this book! Congratulations!!!
Always love your blog posts and would love to check out your book!
How exciting! I love the cover. I draws me in and makes me want to pick it up and read it!
Can’t wait to pre-order! My step-mother (she’s 82) has lamented in the past that she wants to help women love their homes, that the home is a sanctuary, that they should love it the way it is and be patient with making improvements over time. I always tell her about my “blog lady that I read,” who feels just the same way and is now even coming out with a REAL LIVE book about it. We’ve had this discussion more than once, because she is so passionate about homes and decorating. I’m ordering two books – one for her and one for my own bookshelf. Can’t wait! Oh, I think I need one for my sister, too, and a dear friend who decorates, and her young daughter, and …. I don’t have a blog, but if I did, your book would be promoted on it!
Yay!! I love your step-mother! :) and you, thank you so much :)
Congratulations on your new book! What a wonderful experience to share with your daughter.
Ah, contentment, on of the hardest human virtues to cultivate!
I would love to have a copy of your book!

Melissa I can’t wait to read your book! I wish I had found you soon after we bought our second house (you weren’t blogging yet :) and I was really struggling with how to make that house my home! I have learned so much reading your blog through the years. You have truly been an inspiration:) – Tara
Congrats to you and to my favorite blog – you are so inspiring. Can’t wait to see your book – hope I am a lucky winner!

Melissa, congratulations! I’m sure you were thrilled to hold the book in your hands, and see what all of your hard work had created!
Congratulations!! Can’t wait to read your book!
Excited for your book and congratulations for such an accomplishment! I absolutely love your blog because of its authenticity and the soul that I can feel in your home through your pictures! Your style is not staged and cluttered, and I love the fact that you use the same accessories over and over again and they seem to always fit perfectly wherever you place them. You are an example and inspiration to me, a young mom and wife who is also a lover of all things home especially my own!
Thank you so much for the encouragement, Crystal! :) xo
Anticipating reading your beautiful new book! Congratulations!
I’m fairly new to your blog but I enjoy your posts very much. Congratulations on your book! I love my home and feel as you do, I decorate it for myself. It’s my sanctuary and refuge and I love to change things out and enjoy the process and the finish. Congratulations once again.

Congratulations! You set goals and made them happen!!
I have yet to totally learn to love the house I have with its bags of potential, but also leaky plumbing, insufficient structural support, antiquated wiring and lack of ventilation. But we love the location, the yard, the quirky retro bathrooms and kitchen, and size.
I love your blog, can’t wait to read through the book! Thank you!
I am new to your blog–in the last 6 months or so and thoroughly enjoy it. My home is also my sanctuary. I have a large hand painted sign in my living room that is lettered with it….”my SANCTUARY”. Can’t wait for your book. I’m very excited for you!

Congratulations! Great idea for a book.
Congratulations, Melissa!!! I can’t wait to get my hands on your new book- I LOVE the cover- it is adorable:)
Congratulations! So exciting for you!
I have just recently begun to look at our house as our home. In the past, because there were so many things that needed fixed or updated, I started thinking in terms of what all needed done so we could put it on the market. As a result, it has never felt quite like a home. I’m not sure how the transition in my heart took place but I’d be very interested in reading your book.
I love your blog and now can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of your book! So happy for you–congratulations!
Congratulations! Looking forward to reading your book!
We designed and built our home 19 years ago to fit the needs of a young, growing family and it was a great place to fulfill that purpose. However, as our youngest child of our five heads off to college this fall, I find my thoughts turning to ways we can adapt our home to be a welcoming place for our adult offspring as well as their future spouses and grandkids. I love your style, your work, and mostly your attitude!
Eeeeeek! Congratulations!!! I’m so excited for you– almost as if your book-baby were my niece or nephew! Does that sound too wierd? Lol… while it may not be the same as a tiny human, you are still finally able to hold in your hands the labor of love you’ve travailed over for so long! And I can’t wait to read it! :)
Congratulations! Looking forward to savoring your book and adding it to my library.
Congratulations!! The book looks great and I can’t wait to read it. I enjoy your blog daily.
Can’t wait to get a copy! Congratulations!
Congratulations! I love your blog and I’m sure I will love your book just as much!
I love your style and can’t wait for your book (baby)! Congratulations…I know it will be a great success!
I can’t wait to read your new book! My husband and I just moved into our first home and your website has given me plenty of ideas, so I can’t wait to see what is waiting inside the pages of the book! Cheers!
Yay! Congratulations on your achievement! I love how your heart & soul transcends into your home. Everyday living combined with attainable decorating and organization. I’m looking forward to reading it in paperback form now too!
I am excited to read your new book “Love The Home You Have”, I am in a place where I am simplifying every aspect of my life so I can be more aware and grateful for what I have. Congrats on publishing your book, sit in this moment and enjoy it!
Congratulations! I can only imagine how it feels like you gave birth to another child. Lots of work but so worth it! Can’t wait to read it since I love your style and your wonderful attitude.
Thank you SO very much for the approach you take and the message you send! We can not all have homes that look like Pottery Barn catalogs, not would we really want them I think. It sure is easy to get caught up in that marketing, though.
15 years ago my husband and I embarked on a project to remodel a home. He’s a contractor, but quickly lost interest in the reno, leaving me to do what I could by myself, 3 children in tow. The economy soon tanked and I had no choice but to feather a nest with what I had and what I could do on my own.
You are truly and inspiration and a grounding, both at once.
Congrats on your book. It has such an inviting appeal. This is one of those books that you will want to not only have, but also have set out for others to see. So many of my clients tell me that they just want to get their home back. I am sure you will have a successful pre-sale.
Can’t wait
Congratulations! As so many before me have said, I’ve followed your blog and taken much inspiration from all that you’ve shared. Your thoughtfulness shines through your writing and the pictures you post. Well done you!
As an aside, we’ve moved a lot over the years, but one of the first things I learned was to make whatever house we were in, the HOME that we loved. My children, now grown, have all incorporated that same philosophy into the life they share with their families!
I am eager to read your book. It’s been 5 years since we built our dream home and it doesn’t feel right yet. I am rethinking all my decisions and keep tweaking furnishings, etc., but don’t feel it’s there yet!
The book looks great! And fun!!
Your blog is such a source of inspiration to me as I try to make my childhood home into “my” home. I feel a bit disrespectful to my parents in wanting to change things up, but I keep telling myself that this is what they would want me to do. I cannot wait to get my copy of your book — and winning one would just be awesome! Thanks so much !
Congratulations on having your dream come true ! Your new book is a must have for my collection .
Congratulations! Enjoy your blog very much and looking forward to your book!
congratulations on your new book!
Congratulations! I’d love to read your book and couldn’t agree more that making people comfortable and welcome is the whole point. People forget all of the little details what they remember is how you made them feel. :)
Congrats! I would love to have this book :)

I am so excited to get this book! I hope you pick me!
HI Melissa! Love, love, love your blog! I don’t comment as much as I should :) but I so enjoy your posts. I have been reading blogs for a long time, and even tried my hand at it (wow, the work)!! What I most enjoy about your blog is that it has stayed classic. I can feel your heart about your home, you really do inspire us to love our homes, to embrace the gift that home is. Sometimes I drool over gorgeous photos and get totally discouraged that I can’t get that look. But then I come and read something here that inspires me all over again! Thank you for what you do, looking forward to your book!!

Thank you for the hope and encouragement! I would LOVE a copy of your new book to read while I fight this battle. Thank you so much for taking the time to write and inspire us! May GOD bless you!
So happy for you – it looks beautiful! Can’t wait to read your thoughts. My SIL is amazing at doing something with every home – no matter the condition it starts in. Hi Melissa,
I would love to read you book. After moving into another rental house in another country we are in the proces of making it our home again. I do enjoy your blog and all your inspirational ideas. Congratulations with your first book!
Your e-mails are the first ones I open up after personal ones every day! When the book arrives, I will make myself a cup of tea and relax in favorite chair in my home (which has undergone much transformation due to your blog) and savor the book. If I win a book, I will give it as a gift to my daughter.
How thrilled I am for you! Seeing a dream come true does not happen every day. The book looks adorable tucked into that vignette, though I have to tell you that the page opened to “You give a gift to others…” blessed me so much this morning.

Wow! Congratulations. I’d love to read this book! Hope I win one.
I love your blog. It so resonates with my style and I have copied a few of your ideas. my favorite decorating trick is repurposing items in an unusual way and using ‘found’ items or gifts from loved ones as my decor staples while I rotate seasonal items in and out
Good Morning….I love your *blog* for daily ‘inspiration’…and thank you for being there!! I am an AVID book LOVER and would be honoured to receive a copy of your due diligence!! Thanks so much and cheers, Valerie :)
This will be a long comment, because I LOVE the title of the book, and more, I love the premise of your blog and the book. Over 30 years ago as a single mom I invited a couple over for dinner. The apartment I could afford had rat holes (coverd w sheet metal) in closets, and was located on the bottom floor of an old farm house in the middle of the city. The man asked as they were leaving if he could put Formica on a counter that was coverd with oil cloth. So sweet and caring, I accepted his offer. But I also realized that knowing the Lord provided this place, I made it comfortable for me and didn’t hesitate inviting friends over. That was long ago and I’m married 38 yrs with a blended family and 12 grandkids… I still don’t hesitate inviting people over and am more concerned with their comfort than the styling of my home. But I do love to style and am ever grateful for God’s provision I all the forms it’s taken. I’m buying your book for myself & friends who struggle with regrets and unrest instead of contentment and ablility to enjoy they’re homes. Thanks for writing it!
Wanting to hold it, too – the actual copy, like you said, not digital version. Love reading the blog, will be awesome to have your book to carry around with me. Would love to win one, and be able to share it with others. Exciting for you!!
Congratulations, Melissa! I am so excited for you and I can’t wait to read your new book!
Oh I would love to win this book, I also will pre-order when the time comes. From the title I feel like I do need to read this book, I have really been struggling in my home. God has blessed me with a nice home but the problem is I have downsized because I am closer to retirement and its just hard to let go of things I “think” I love and I “think” are important. Can’t wait to get a copy in my hands!
Have enjoyed your home ideas and blog for years. Would be a dream to receive your new book!
Congratulations Melissa! I can’t wait to have it in my hot little hands!
xo~Jill
Congratulations on writing this book! I am looking forward to reading it. I love to get your daily emails and inspiration. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and passion with everyone.

This book looks adorable and fun! I love your blog, so I am excited to see this book!!! Can’t wait!
Hi! I don’t recall how I came upon your blog, but I enjoy it immensely. You are truly inspiring when I have no clue what to do with my home decor. We’ve been in a remodel phase for sixteen years and are finally completing it, only to then sell our home in order to move. Ugh. Thankfully moving won’t cause me to lose touch with your blog. Amazing how technology is so transportable – sort of like a book. :-) looking forward to buying it soon!!! (Or winning one?!)
I found your blog several months ago and love the feel of your posts. We move into a new home in a couple months and I would love to read your book for insights that will aid me in settling into our new surroundings and making it feel like a safe haven for our family.
Wonderful cover, makes me want to dive into the book right away! Can’t wait to sit next to the fireplace in the evenings and take in all your insights and ideas.

I want to love my home even though I am a working single mom homeowner who never has time for home decor or fixing things or all those projects I dream about. I still want to love my home anyway and not compare my home to everyone else!
Have enjoyed and learned lots of tips from your postings. Thanks so much!
I’m so excited to read this! As a home owner and a crafter I have so many ideas but tend to get overwhelmed and want to start with a clean slate (aka new house). …Congratulations!
Is everything that I need right now. Being a new homeowner with tons of things to fix in the house, sometimes is tough loving your home while is everything out of place. We’ve been trying to look beyond that and think about what our home can looks like when is done. Your blog is being definitely helpful for me.
Congrats on the new book!
Would love to have this book. I have a tendency to compare with my friends.
This is one of my biggest struggles, it’s hard to balance wanting to “better” your life with not wanting things you don’t have. I would love a copy of your book! :) Have a great day!
Can’t wait!
So excited for you to actually hold your first book! I’m Eager to see it.
Been following your blog for about a year. Since I don’t have much money it’s important that I love the home I’m in and figure out how to turn it in to my sanctuary. You help everyday.
Hello and congratulations on your new book! How exciting! I’m a somewhat new follower (just before Christmas). I discovered your blog while searching photos of subway tiles used in the kitchen..I’m happy to say your beautiful kitchen helped inspired me to finally select a grout color and start my project! So thank you for that. :)
So happy for you. What a blessed journey it’s been.
Congratulations! Will be pre-ordering! Thank you for a chance to win a copy as well.
Congratulations! Love reading what you share with us!
Can’t wait to read it!
Congratulations! So excited for you :)
Congratulations! I can’t wait to read your book and to know you will have another come this Fall is even better! Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Congratulations, love reading your shared inspiration!
Melissa,
I am so very excited for you and about your book! When I first read the announcement a while ago that you were writing a book, both my mom and I (Lynne, she is a regular commentor!) called one another and were giddy over the announcement! You and The Inspired Room have been a HUGE inspiration to me and my home, and I look forward to reading your book (even if I don’t win, I will be buying SEVERAL copies!)
-Emily
I get what you mean about texture and “touchableness” in a beautiful book – and to have it be your very own baby – well that’s gotta be surreal! I’ll be pre-ordering and have three daughters I’d love to hand a copy to. Looking forward to it!
Just wanted to say I felt the joy in your heart (my eyes welled up with tears) as I read your words. What a happy day!! I am sooo very excited for you and cannot wait get my hands on your book and curl up for a fabulous read. [[[hugs]]]
I love reading your blog and will love the book too. I especially love how you decorate with tourquoise !
Hope I win!
The book looks so fun. I can’t wait to read it.
I’m so excited for you! What a great accomplishment!
I happened upon your blog a long while ago and have been following along. Love your style and ability to make us feel we can do it too! Of course, Jack, and then Lilly, and then Bella have been added attractions too!
This is so exciting! I have been thinking about decorating so much since my husband and I just bought our first home and I really want to make our home a comforting and inviting space, full of light, color, and love. I can’t wait to move in!
Congratulations on your new book. What an accomplishment.
Love your heart. Can’t wait to get my hands on the book. So grateful that you’re able to use your gifts to encourage others.
Can’t wait to get a copy. Your blog is truly inspirational :)
Home is considered the “man’s” castle. I am the queen of my home. It is my sanctuary and surrounds me with peace and joy. Every woman should feel this and your new book should help.
Oh I am so excited about this book!! I love your instagram!! We bought an older home that reminds me of the home I grew up in. Now we are slowly updating it and as I get to add decor and different things I look to your blog for inspiration!!
Congratulations! I found your blog a few months ago when I was feeling really down about my house. Reading your posts and seeing the changes to your home really inspired me to make some changes to my home. And it feels great! Thank you and I look forward to reading your book!
I can’t wait to read it! Your first book and blog remind me that what I have is beautiful! and that my home doesn’t have to be perfect all the time, thank you.
So excited for you. Congratulations!!
Wow, what an amazing accomplishment – congratulations!! Looking forward to the book! Your home and blog are beautiful. You’re definitely one of my regular reads. Thanks for all the inspiration over the years!! =)
I’m a long time follower of your blog and cannot wait for your book!
Can’t wait to see this book and get a copy! I have been loving your blog. It’s right in line with my thinking in so many ways! I love helping my clients re-purpose and re- arrange the things that they have right in their house (once we find them, of course. As a professional organizer, I often have to dig through piles with my clients to discover what they forgot they had!)
I do this in my own house all the time. (re-decorate and rearrange, not de-clutter) ;-)
I love your blog and it has given me so much inspiration. I am a single senior woman who lives with my little dog and I am addicted to decorating. I live in a one bedroom apartment and recently I received a beautiful french country armoire for my birthday from my daughter, which I have converted to a television cabinet. It is a cream color and as a result I have spent the past six months converting my living room into a cottage/french country/shabby chic look. I am so happy you have written this book and I look forward to adding it to my collection.
Congratulations! Beautiful book, would love to have a copy!
Thank you for such a great giveaway! Looking forward to reading your new book. After 35 years of marriage and 3 homes we may be moving again, this time to a new state ( we now live in Texas). Your book could not have come at a better time for me. Congratulations❤️

Diane

Congratulations! So excited to read this book – love your blog!
this book sounds so wonderful! I would love to read it.
Our home should inspire all who live there, and all we invite to share our life – whether briefly or regularly. Thank you for encouraging the sisterhood of women and freeing us to reflect love, joy and peace in our homes!
What a wonderful gift you have…so very FUN to see your talents coming to print as well! Thank you for INSPIRING US to have Homes that we have been able to see in a different light, for being a cheerleader helping us to take ‘baby steps’ making our abode a sanctuary for all.
I’ve been looking forward to the release of this book! How exciting for you!! Thank you for the chance to win a copy
My good friend is getting married and setting up her first home. What an inspiring gift this would be!

I’d love to win! I love books.
Can’t wait to get this book!
Congrats! Sounds like a great book – I’d love to check it out, especially because apartments are so hard to find in NYC that you definitely have to know how accept a less-than-perfect space!
Congratulations!!! I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy!
I’m excited for you for your book release. I can’t wait to read it!
So much to learn and so much to do!
We just moved last year and with a 9 year old and 3 year old, it would be next center to keep things calm, clean and organized. Congratulations on this new book! It is a labor of love.
I would definitely love to win this book!!!!!!!!! :)
I have so enjoyed your blog. I love your heart! I am a Mary & Martha consultant & learned about your through the business. You have blessed & inspired me! So excited for you about your book!
I am very excited to read your book. You are such an inspiration to those of us who love our home but sometimes get “stuck” and restless with what we have. Recently I was certain I needed a new smaller sofa to update my living room but just could not justify the expense of another right now. Well, I gave the room a spring “fluff” inspired by your recent post and that was all I needed to do. I love that sofa now and see the room in a whole new perspective by rearranging furniture and swapping out accessories. (I thought I had already tried every arrangement possible but decided to give it another go and so glad I did!) What a blessing your post was to set me back on track. I am continually changing year round but the living room and that overly large leather sofa had me stumped. Thanks for inspiring me to love my room once again!
p.s. I had to laugh, my sofa is the twin to your daughter’s red one, only in golden tan leather! All 97″ of it! :) Have a blessed day…
Yahoo! :) I’m so glad you tried again and can love your room now! That inspires me! :) THANK YOU!
Congratulations! And thank you! Your blog … and now the book … are such inspiration. It’s so easy to look at Pinterest and Houzz and Pottery Barn, and all the others, and feel my home is so lacking. And then I read your blog and am reminded that my home reflects me and it’s comfortable and that’s good. I can’t wait to read your book.
Mellisa, I love your message, methods and mantra. We all can benefit from your inspirations and I would have loved having you inspire me in my early years of setting up my home. I’m sure I would have loved the home I had even more knowing it was Ok not to have the expensive beautiful homes that graced the pages of the magazines I read. That was all there was in the day, I remember feeling like a lovely home was out of reach. Young ladies today, on any budget, can make a warm and beautiful home they can be proud of .
Excited to read your book!
So excited for you, Melissa! Congratulations!
Your home has inspired mine . . . and me. As my nest empties of the boys who once lived here, I feel that I’m getting re-acquainted with what I love about our home. It’s not all that impressive, but it is home, and I want to make it a haven, a sanctuary for me and my husband and however many people come by. Thank you for guiding me along the way. I can’t wait to get my hands on your book . . . and the next one . . . and the next.
So excited for you! I’m 29 and coming up on my 7th year of marriage, I’m still working out how to make our home *ours* and your blog has been such an encouragement without making me feel like it’s not possible because I can’t afford Pottery Barn/Crate & Barrel/H&G everything!
Congratulations! You are an inspiration! Thank you for the opportunity of a GIVEAWAY and for 50% off pre-orders! I have several people in mind, including my sister and my young adult niece and daughter who are starting on their own homes. While we most often can’t have everything we want when we want it, I believe it’s much more satisfying and long lasting to acquire that perfect thing at the right time.
I just recently found your blog and I’m loving the inspiration. Congrats on the book! How exciting!
Love your blog and so looking forward to your book! Would love to win a copy, but also plan to take advantage of the 50% off to get a couple also – will make a great gift!
Your blog has been so helpful. Thank you so much! Can’t wait for you book release.
I am new to your blog and I am so glad I came across it! We have been in our new home for a little over a year and I am still trying to find ways to truly make it feel like home. I would love to win your new book for inspiration!
Congratulations Melissa! I know you must be oozing with pride & excitement over your book release. As you should be.
I saw this quote & it reminded me why I’ve followed your blog for several years now…
‘Blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places where other people see nothing’
-Camille Pisarro

I love your philosophy, love what we have, yes we can still improve it, but surround ourselves with what we love and welcome in those we love.
That is what makes a home truly blessed
Jane

I am new to your blog, and wanted to tell you how much I am enjoying it, and the Inspiralizer cookbook, just makes my day. I have always always been a “nester” and my home has meant everything to me, love to decorate, Country-Cabin- Cottage, what ever if I like the way it looks then I am happy camper… gee this is first time I have left a comment on a blog too, doing good for a 77 years young woman,lol..

So excited for you! Was speaking with a friend going through edits on her book that she doesn’t even know yet if it will be published and it really brought new perspective into the whole process you authors go through. Best of luck with the launch.
Excited to read your book. I’m really wanting to love my house, but I’m thinking I need to clear out some more STUFF first! Been making my plan all day.
I find this blog *so* inspiring. I love the funny, conversational posts. But what I love the most are the pictures of your home and being inspired by what you’ve done. You present a way to have a really beautiful home while also having a place you can actually live in. I’m reminded not to take it all so seriously and to really have fun with it. I also really love the point you made about not making it for show, but making it a sanctuary for yourself. That’s so important to me.
I can’t wait till the release date of your book!! Ive followed your blog for quite some time now and also follow you on Pinterest. Best wishes!!
Love your blog…..I KNOW I’ll love your book too!
Hi Melissa!
I’ve been reading your blog for several years now and have really enjoyed it.
I don’t comment often but I would really love a chance to win your book.
Let me say the thing that brought me to your website was your list of 20 little things to treasure in autumn back in 2008.
Love that kind of stuff.
Thanks
Terri
Congratulations…..I enjoy your blog, and am looking forward to reading your new book.
I think the title alone says it all. If we could all love the home we’re in, it would be a beautiful thing. I’d love to win this book for my mom for Mother’s Day.
YAY! I am so excited for you (and for me to get to read it soon!). Thank you for sharing your gifts so generously. You have been an encouragement to me since I started following your blog last year.
I so appreciate the warmth and creativity that comes through your blog. You truly are inspiring!
I am thrilled that your book is published and is in “hold in my hands” form! In this day of technology it is rare for a person writing a blog to go beyond an e-book form and put it into print. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I look forward to reading your book and continuing to follow you on your blog. Congratulations!!!
Warmest congratulations on this incredible accomplishment. You have been so inspiring to me and I appreciate your attitude and the message you are spreading about loving where you are. I love the dogs ad their stories as well. PICK ME for one of the free books, please! And keep up the good work.

congratutions!!…..god bless you for writing
My favorite time of day is when I get the youngest on the school bus, come in and stoke the fire (we live in CT and it’s been very cold!) put the kettle on to brew tea and let the dogs in. Then I sit and read your blog. I look through old pictures, love reading your words, and ideas. I feel my taste is similar to yours, but my house looks nothing like yours…..yet. It’s big work in progress, and with 3 young children decorating ss usually last on the list of priorities. Thank you for those quiet moments…my favorite ones.
love your news letter and your inspired ideas. Would love to win a copy of your book.
Congratulations on the book! I can’t wait to read it.

Seriously, it’s become like having a best friend to curl up and talk pretty home with! Like you I’m also focusing on my authentic path, it’s an interesting and surprising journey! I’m so looking forward to your book, well done sweetheart!
How wonderful for you! Thanks.
It’s March, it’s snowing, it’s Buffalo. As I look out my window I realize how fortunate I am to be right here right now. Thank you Melissa
I look forward to reading your blogs and feel as though Im visiting a friend in her home.
I’m so excited for you and love the premise of your new book! I want to learn how to make my home a peaceful sanctuary.
What an awesome accomplishment for you! Your Blog is my absolute favorite! I am looking forward to having a copy of your new book!
Awesome!! what a wonderful concept and lovely way to live and enjoy ‘home’ cant wait to see more of the book, I need it and what perfect timing, It is said when the teacher is needed they will appear (dont have correct wording but I remember the basis of it) I have come through a tumultous abusive marraige now divorced and my living quarters have been my safe sanctuary but its like my mind a cluttered mess reading your book would give me insight to putting into practise for it to become a welcoming place instead of a few dark areas overlaided with layers and layers of uneasy mess. Please select me to win one of your fantastic books, I would treasure your advice, read over and over and love putting into practise, so I can start welcoming family and friends back into my life. It really would be life changing for me.
Congratulations! So happy for you Michelle, for the print release of “Love the Home You Have” I greatly enjoy your blog and look forward to having a copy of my very own :) Blessings on you and your family!
I can’t wait to read your book! I have always felt that making your home a sanctuary was very important and has never gotten the attention that it deserves. You have brought LIGHT to this subject and hopefully inspired others to have more than just conversation on the topic. I love your blog and feel as you’re a kindred spirit.
Enjoy reading your blog and your home is beautiful. I have struggled to learn to love the home I have, hoping your book will inspire me!
So sorry, Melissa – I called you Michelle… My apologies… :?
The name of your blog is so perfect because each time I read what you write I am INSPIRED! Thank you for bringing us into your day to day creativeness and allowing us to be a part of your family. Can’t wait to read!!!!
I recently discovered you blog, and it has already inspired me to look at my home in new ways. There is something comforting and encouraging in your posts. I am very happy for you and wish you great success with your book
I want to thank you so much for sharing your journey. Your voice in your blog is so warm and approachable I feel like we are old friends. Just as I was removing the white lights from my mantle and moving my sailboat around, there you were talking about the mantle. We are psychic friends too. I look forward to opening my mail and seeing a message from you. I sincerely wish you continued success and I would like you to know that in your wonders, trys, advice, plans, hopes and dreams I hear your honesty and warmth and I appreciate it so much. Thank you for opening your heart. Warm Regards, Denise

Hi Melissa-I am so, so happy for you. I cannot imagine the happiness you must be feeling in publishing your first book! A long time ago, I pre-ordered the book at Amazon. I cannot wait to get it into MY hands and examine it too. :) Good for you for staying the course and making this a reality in your life! We are in the process of building a new home and will be in soon-end of April. I have had so much fun being inspired by all of your posts. And, of course, we have a mutual love of GoldenDoodles. :)
Congratulations! Your insights, descriptions, clever ideas, and beautiful photos are tools that help me to identify and drill down ways I can improve my home. I especially need help in figuring out how to edit and classify and group objects, and every time I consult your blog I have at least one “Ah ha!” moment that sets me on a more informed and confident path to loving my home more. The process is a less lonely and more fun adventure because of you. Thank you! Sooooo excited for the entire series!

Wising you the best of luck with your new book it should be as great as your blog. I never am lucky with giveaways this would be a great place to change my luck besides I have the best spot picked out to place this book
I am excited to read your book.
Melissa, your words, whether online or in print, have meaning to those who read those words. You have welcomed us, your readers, into your home and your life, which is to our benefit. How wonderful that there is a reward for you as well…knowing you have a following, people who take to heart and find pleasure in what you have to say.
And now another reward..financial I’m sure, but more than that, knowing that your messages to us about our homes is important enough to be preserved in print. It’s an opportunity of us to read and re-read about how to make our houses into homes, our decorating visions into realities and makes our homes the haven that everyone wishes for.
Congratulations, my friend.
We’ve only recently discovered your blog and were converted advocates within minutes. We’ve shared may of your posts to our tribe of newbie DIYers and can’t wait to read your book!

We are in the process of updating our home and your blog has been such an inspiration to me to let my personality come through in the remodel and not just go with what is currently trendy. Thank you for giving me the insight to appreciate this and enjoy the process.
Good morning Melissa! I can’t wait to get my hands on your book. I’m a girl whose moved so many times since I started out with my first rental at 17. Through these past 39 years and all the moves somewhere along the way I gave up without really knowing it. Thank you for that and again I’m anxious to get YOUR book!!!! Have an awesome day.
Congratulations on your book! Love your blog.
congratulations to you on your book! I’ve been following your blog for a few years now and just live your style. We inherited our home and really dislike it, it’s not what we have chosen but it’s a roof over our heads and paid for. We are slowly changing things, the next big thing is a kitchen remodel, I often look to your kitchen for ideas. I can’t tell you how often I show other people your home, and those floors!!!! Thank you for the opportunity! Best wishes to you!

I’m so excited for you! I have just recently begun to follow you, and what attracts me is that asking with lovely pictures and decorating ideas, you understand what HOME is. Love The Home You Have is exactly the journey I have been on, as well. Congratulations!
Your blog was the first one I read and even encouraged me to start my own blog.
Congratulations on your first book! Can’t wait to read it.
Congrats on your new book! I have been following you on Facebook for a few years now as I have wanted to change the way I feel about my home and the way I feel in my home as well. Slow little steps and inspiration all the time from your blog. Again excited about your new book!
Love this concept! A great idea to make changes in our homes so we can love them!
Congrats on the book! I have been in my home over a year now and it is still not furnished to my liking. I’m also currently saving for my wedding so I haven’t been able to buy things for the house really. This is a great reminder that I need to stop and love my home just as it is now. The fact that I own my own home is a great accomplishment and there is something beautiful in living in the moment. Thank you!
Congrats! Looking forward to reading your book!
Can’t wait to read your book!
How exciting! I could really use this book right now, seriously going through some “want a new house” phase. I need to love the hone I have.
I stumbles across this blog about a year ago and LOVE it. I can’t wait to read the book!
After 50years of marriage, I will now have to figure out a home for me. Your blog (and I am sure the book) have and will give me great ideas on how to make my home right for me.
This book looks like it would be good for me. If I had a mantra it would be “Repurpose-Recycle-Reuse”. I’m always looking for ways to use the things that I already have to make a comfortable home for my family. If you picked me I would be super excited!
I think the message you give that your home is a work in progress and that REAL people and the pets they love, live in it is the one that speaks to me. I’m grateful for the home I have and I dream of what it may be one day!
I really enjoy your blog and am excited to get the book.
Looking forward to reading your book! Great message!!
Can’t wait to read your book! I need help with ideas for my newly purchased dated ranch.
Congratulations! I can’t wait to read it!
Congratulations!
Looking forward to your book… My hobby is decorating and I enjoy looking at all kinds
of decorating books. One of my favorite
pastimes is to browse furniture stores to check out all the different rooms and accessories. It brings so much joy and happiness to decorate with what you love.
I’ve been in my house for 20+ years and still don’t love it. This sounds like not only a book I would enjoy, but one I need. Congratulations on your success, I’m sure it’s just the beginning of a long, and fun new journey.
Hi Melissa,
I am a young mother of 4 sweet babies and my husband and I have moved about 10 times in 6 years of marriage, and each time I wanted so much to make a home for my little (growing) family. I have turned to your blog often for comfort, inspiration, and even advice during some of those long months in tiny apartments and homes. I am glad to have a book I can look forward to reading. It has been a long time since I have wanted to spend any free time on a book :) I hope I win one, but even if I don’t I plan to purchase a copy soon!
Hmm. Dilemna. Should I cancel my Amazon pre-order to get it on sale from Barnes and Noble? ;-)
Congratulations, Melissa!
Love to give the book to my daughter who is a new home owner. You have a great message about practical simple beauty in the home
Congratulations and thank you for the giveaway! I’m hoping I win! LOL!!! I’m pushing through and trying to get my home in shape and sometimes it’s so hard to find inspiration among all of the necessary chores, etc that comes along with a family of six. I think I do an ok job, but could always use help, especially when it’s from such a great source!
I can’t wait to get a copy of your book. I am new to following your blog but look forward to your post. Best of luck with your book.
Three thumbs up from the over 60 crowd! You have Inspired us ALL with your ideas and love of home. I plan on giving a copy of your book to my daughter and saving a copy for my new granddaughter. Thank you

I NEED this book!! Thanks for such a generous giveaway!
I live in a 100+ yr old farmhouse we’re. All oat 2 years into renovating. My flooring has been in atoeage a year. We havent had a sofa or even dining chsirs now in pver 6 months.
I don’t. Know whether to cry or give up. And burn it down. If it weren’t. For the fish upstairs…. Lol
But srsly. I started this renovation journey so I would love my home. So it would be comfortable for us… And the people we love who we wanted to spend more time with at home…
Maybe your book could inspire the last little oomph we need to get’er done.
Also. Congratulations!
I can’t wait to read it!
can’t wait to read this book, thank you so much for writing it!
Love the premise of your book. Discontentment is taught and caught so easily these days. I’d love to read your ideas of contentment and changing perspective about the home I have, not the house I could have one day. Congrats on the “birth” of your book baby! ;-)
I just pre-ordered a copy of your book!
Congrats on such a fulfilling achievement!!
Can’t wait to read your words :)
so awesome! so exciting! I enjoy your blog and I’m sure I will enjoy the book when it comes out….can’t wait! Congratulations!

I’m so excited to share your view of a balancing contentment with DIY with family and friends. Congratulations on your new baby. Hope you sell millions.
Can’t wait to start reading!
This looks like a great book! Congratulations! Can’t wait to read it.
I am really looking forward to your book. I have been struggling to love my house for 25+ years. I am always changing the arrangements searching for the comfortable one. I like/love most of my furniture and accessories, I just have a problem with placement. I was not born with the skill/gift of decorating LOL.
Congrats! So excited for you and cannot wait to read the book. I have followed your blog for many years and just love it.
Hey, LOVE interior design. It is my passion in life. Just moved into an old 1917 fixer upper and thinking about ways to make it a great, beautiful, historic place. Would love a copy of your book!
Congratulations on your first…. of many…. books!!! I am looking forward to reading it!!
Melissa: I have a question (that I am sure you might answer in your book, but I am too impatient:)) How do you work with Hand Me Downs/ what you have even when it isn’t right? I have a lovely couch in a yellow color (not my favorite color, but very comfortable, I love the shape and I would like to recover it one day), and a big beautiful green rug (that I love on its own, but it has to be in the room with the yellow couch because of the size of the room/rug) Some day (when I don’t have a little one, and a million other things don’t need to be fixed in the house) I would love to recover the couch to work with the rug…, but today I am struggling to “work with what I have”. Do you have any practical suggestions on how to work with “bossy furniture” that sometimes needs to reside together? Should I be looking for that tip in your book?
Yes, I do talk about the need to work with what we have and I offer some tips on setting up a room comfortably and bringing unity even when you don’t love each piece. I think finding some throw pillows that you like on the couch will help you divert your eyes to something you do like and unify your room a bit more so it can be comfortable enough to live with until the day you can recover it! You maybe could even layer a rug over the green one, I used to do that when I hated my carpet! I put a sisal rug over the carpet and it helped! :) Good luck and I hope you’ll enjoy the book (and the next one coming out in the fall with a lot of decorating helps and tips!).
Oh, wow, I just really love how touchable your book sounds. There’s nothing like the feel and smell of a good book! Can’t wait to read it and the others in your series. Your blog is such a blessing and now there’s a whole series of books to look forward to. Can barely wait! Thanks for writing and congratulations!
I think this is going to be a great book. Looking forward to the other one as well!
What an amazing accomplishment! Excited for you to share it with the world!
I have always wanted my home to be a sanctuary for anyone who entered. My husband and I are just beginning the “empty nest” season of life. I want my children to look forward to coming home. Having just discovered your blog, I look forward
