I seem to be drawn to galvanized and zinc items all year round, but especially at Christmas. There is nothing glamorous about a metal bucket, but I think that’s what I like about it! A touch of something galvanized or zinc adds a bit of a farmhouse industrial, unpretentious and homey feel to the normally shiny Christmas decorations and natural greenery. I love of a mix like that!
Several metal buckets in our home hold our Christmas trees and some firewood. A galvanized trough and a tray are perfect for showing off some seasonal ornaments or plants. I also have a strand of galvanized stars that are fun to string across a fireplace or wall both at Christmas and the Fourth of July!
As I was searching for Christmas decorating ideas last week, I saw so many galvanized and zinc pieces in rooms that I loved that I decided to gather some inspiration photos for you. I also stumbled upon those adorable little zinc winter villages which I shared a few days ago. If you missed them, be sure to take a look. They are magical!
Enjoy and happy Christmas decorating!

Yes, I am decorating for Christmas this weekend, + yes, we’ve put our Christmas tree in a galvanized bucket! I see a lot of Swedish-inspired Christmas decorating in these photos. Simple, simple, simple — just the way I like it! TY so much for the Amazon discount! I think I’ll buy the new Gardenista book.
Yes, I think you’re right, Kay! Definitely has a Swedish-inspired look. Happy decorating!
Love the trees in the buckets! Cute!
Great inspiration photos! I particularly live the galvanized tree collar!
Love!
I see someone else pointed out the Scandinavian look – that was my first thought, too. I do love those zinc pieces.
Funny thing – this difference about the Christmas tree. I follow your blog and see not many differences between American style and my “local” style (in Copenhagen, Denmark) – but we do put op and decorate the tree until perhaps in the evening of 23 December and we light the candles on it on Christmas Eve (24 December).
Most of us start decorating the house on 1 December or the first Sunday of Advent, whichever comes first. :-)
Hey Melissa! Do you know where someone could purchase a little tin village? I am looking for one, saw one on a post somewhere and it looked so cute on top of a chest. :) Happy Doodle day! :)
