Blog post from 2016:
Happy Monday, friend! How was your weekend? I can’t believe we are less than a week away from Christmas, can you? I wish I was all ready, but I’m going to be scurrying around trying to pull my house at least somewhat together in time for guests. Leave it to me to have house projects going on right up until Christmas :). The good news is that I am optimistic my kitchen is going to be finished and my Dutch doors will be installed this week! Yahoo! Can’t wait to show you all the progress.
Hope you have a great day!

Thank you for the beautiful inspiration photos. I especially love the rustic one from Country Living!
That Saavy Southern Style bedroom with the plaid rules my little world. My plans include sewing a tartan plaid bed skirt, stat! Right after I get dozens of presents wrapped in plaid paper. Merry Christmas!
I wish a very merry Christmas. We remodeled our kitchen several years ago and finished on December 23rd. I remember the excitement and stress associated with that time of year. Everyone will have a wonderful time even if every little detail isn’t quite finished! :-)
xo,
Karen
As tense as it is, it will be so nice having it done. I feel your pain-literally. Our master bath had to be re-done and that led to our hall/guest bath. We’ve had a shower and toilet to use for a week. Family of 5 brushing teeth in the kitchen sink. Mother-in-law lands Thursday. I am hoping the final push is what will get it done. I just wanted to say-I am right there with you. ;)
One Christmas, my sister’s bathroom was under construction while all the family was scheduled to be there. I told her not to worry about it, just put up a sign that says, “Please excuse our mess; we are in the process of living.” Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the humorous approach. Living IS messy – and sometimes creates the BEST atmosphere for fun and family. Whether it’s done or not, have “the merriest, the merriest” with your dear family! Like you, I’ll be in a frenzy this week to finish up last-minute holiday details. ‘Tis the season! Then Christmas Eve, I’ll have a quiet moment with just the Christmas lights glowing, remembering why we celebrate Christmas, and that will set everything right again! Have a beautiful Christmas, Melissa!
Blue & white are my spring & summer accent decor colors. Thanks for the inspiration photos of using those colors for the holidays too! Hmmm..perhaps next year! ?
I love that first photo. My Christmas decor tends to be red/gold/green, but I dream of doing a silver/blue/white Christmas one year. Hope your week isn’t too crazy!
Indeed, who ever said a Blue Christmas is bad?!? I love ALL of this! Especially the guest room at Savvy Southern Style! Thanks for the beautiful reminders that Christmas doesn’t have to mean red and green!
I love that ski pillow….that happens to be upside down, ha ha!! I, too, have a monster project going on right now, which is not ideal, but hopefully I’ll also be able to pull my home together before my Christmas visitors arrive! Merry Christmas to you, Melissa!
Those are some super cute blue & white stockings!

My mother’s birthday was on January 5th and she loved to go out to dinner at Trader Vic’s for that – located in nearby Scottsdale, Arizona. This was in the 70s. They are no longer there. Anyway… They would still have their Christmas décor up and they had exclusively blue and white but did this: flocked everything with all blue lights. The old-fashioned kind of lights (before twinkle-type were available) you understand. The 20′ tree, the reception desk, they even did flocked garland (somehow) with those lights. It was always extremely enchanting, lovely, and special to us – that blue glow on all that white flocking.
Melissa,
A blue and white Christmas is the best kind and really calms the home. No red in my house! Thank you for the beautiful inspiration.
Merry Christmas!
