Transform Your Bedroom into a Cozy Retreat

Transform Your Bedroom into a Cozy Retreat

Yesterday morning as I got out of bed and started heading into the kitchen, I realized it was quite chilly in the house. Hello, fall? Is that you? That realization might come as a shock to those of you still experiencing summer temperatures. While it’s getting chillier, I haven’t yet turned our heat on (even though I’ve been tempted). So I’d say it’s that “in between” time here in the PNW.

Anyway, as I was heading toward the kitchen I realized something very important was missing…my slippers! Where were my fuzzy sock slippers that I put on in the morning this time of year so my feet don’t freeze? There’s nothing less pleasant to me than cold feet. Ha! I needed to go find my slippers, but they were not conveniently located at all.

It’s always the smallest things, like being prepared with a cozy throw in cooler temps or knowing where your fuzzy socks or slippers are, that make fall and winter more pleasant.

Even if it’s still hot where you live, is it fun to think about how it will feel in cooler weather (or do you prefer the heat?)?

The coziest bedroom this time of year will be made up of many little comforts, such as:

clean and tidy spaces to make nesting feel so comforting
a cozy bed with just the right soft layers for feeling snug as a bug
a warm rug (or slipper socks!) for your feet when you leap out of bed (do you leap out of bed or drag yourself?)
do you like to put on a bathrobe or sweater or sweatshirt when you get up in the morning?

make sure you have adjustable lighting for reading and dressing + light control for sleeping.
set a stack of books or magazines by the bed (a basket can corral them into a tidy stack)
find a folding tray for breakfast in bed (treat yourself to special luxuries, even if no one is treating you!).

Take a look at your bedroom today.

What might be missing or added for the season ahead?

Is it time to add more layers? (I had to add my beloved furry blanket the other night!).

What about a rug for the floor or curtains at the window?

Do you switch the bedding for fall? Maybe a set of darker sheets or different quilt?

What would make your room feel like a more inviting and comfortable retreat to curl up in?

Have fun preparing yourself and your room for a cozy season!

It’s feeling like fall over on Vancouver Island. I feel a little cheated with the weather turning so quickly. I switched my wardrobe around on Monday, bringing fall clothes forward and tucking summer away.
I’m a fluffy bathrobe kind of gal. I like to wear nighties not pjs. It’s time to start wearing slippers. I have a pair of fuzzy slippers from Pottery Barn that I love, but they don’t come out until it is winter temps. Instead I wear my plaid ones. Warm bathrobe & slippers with coffee in hand is my morning ritual.
    Your dogs are the cutest!

Didn’t your bedroom used to be a deep, dark purple? Or did I miss a project?

I swear. On the first day of fall in Ohio, Mother Nature flipped the switch. We went from 90s to 70s and I couldn’t be happier!! My bedroom needs all kinds of love. Heck, my whole house does!! One bit at a time!

Yes! One step at a time, I bet it’s so much easier when it’s not so hot! ENJOY!

Last year I discovered fleece sheets. Not flannel but fleece! They are so comfortable and cozy that we can’t wait to get into bed a night. I actually bought my first set at K Mart to use in our motor home when we were camping. We loved them so much that I bought a set of our bed at home and also our guest bedroom. I was a little leery at first thinking my husband would complain that they were too hot. Boy was I wrong about that. He loves them and didn’t want to take them off when warm weather came We live in Florida but they are still not too hot. I later order two sets from QVC when they had a special on them. So far they have laundered great. We love them so much more than the fleece that have a tendency to pill after several washing.

I am definitely a warm weather girl! That said, I still find the idea of a cozy bedroom most inviting and love your ideas …

I just updated my heat packs. They are flannel with flax. No scent, just warmth. I love crawling into a cozy bed with the air slightly crisp and the heat pack to snuggle with as I read. Heaven!
