Well-Being + Wind Chimes on the Porch

I love to listen to the gentle sounds around our home. I especially enjoy the sound of laughter, but when the house is otherwise quiet I love to hear the birds chirping outside my windows, wind blowing through the trees, the rustling of the palm leaves near my porch, soothing soft music in the background, the gentle bubbling of my oil diffuser, the sound of new capiz shell wind chimes outside my window and the familiar chimes in the tree at the far side of the yard.

I try to slow down and listen carefully for those peaceful sounds as often as I can. A house that speaks to all of my senses feels like home. How a home sounds is an easy element to overlook, I think!

Recently I ordered this set of three capiz shell wind chimes (similar here, here, and here). As I unwrapped them from the shipping box, I wasn’t expecting that they would make such an impact on how our home felt!

The day we hung them on some nails and hooks on the side porch, it was so windy! Oh, but was it ever magical to hear the soft gentle tinkling sound of the shells blowing in the breeze right outside my kitchen!

You can watch a short video of my wind chimes above (or click here!).

As my husband stood back to admire the wind chimes he said, “OK, that’s it! we can never move!” I laughed that the addition of these humble wind chimes on a hook would prompt him to feel so attached to our home.

Obviously we could take those wind chimes with us should we ever decide to move! But as soon as he said it, I knew just what he felt.

Each time we add a new meaningful decorative element or we have an experience that speaks to our heart and soul here, we feel a little more connected to this space as our home.

It’s the little things, isn’t it?

Well-Being + Wind Chimes on the Porch

Often I find that a deeper connection to home and family comes through the gift of our senses in some way. It takes time, but each positive experience our senses take in seems to embed a little bit more joy into our life and surroundings.

My new book Dwelling is filled with so many practical ideas and inspiration to experience a greater sense of well-being, peace and joy in your home, body and soul.

Hi Melissa! What beautiful chimes!! I cannot believe the price for all three. I already have plenty of wind chimes now, but I may get them to have for gifts. Thank you for the post. Good day?

My husband requested wind chimes last year. I thought it was so interesting, as we’ve never really had them before. I found a nice one with great tone, and I just love hearing them out on our deck!

I love wind chimes and have them all over the yard and porches. Always getting more it seems. I do not have any like those. I will take a look and see if I can find them.

I have never been a huge lover of wind chimes…they kind of annoy me…but actually I really loved the ones you have, they are soft and gentle sounding. It’s funny how different we all are. I have actually produced several water features around my yard. My sister however doesn’t like the sound of running water…LOL. I have water can fountains….a shower that runs out of a bird house, pearched on an old ladder, the water is caught by an iron frog that is holding a bucket, which then goes into the a rock concealed ‘rubber made’ container buried in the ground…which pumps it back up to the shower. I also have two small ponds with waterfalls in my back yard…that I dug out myself and created. I love the sound of the water, the birds and the smells of all the flowers blooming while I do my morning Bible devotions.

That all sounds lovely to me! And it is funny how different we all are. My husband prefers background NOISE…like tv’s blaring, radio shows on…loud music…many sounds that are annoying to me he somehow likes, hahahah!!

They’re out of stock online now. :) I set up an alert so they will email me when they’re back in stock. Thanks for sharing! Will be perfect for my deck!

I have the tiki hut style wind chimes made of bamboo hanging under our deck, and i just love the festive sound they make. Transports me back down to Key West and the tropics, where we have so many great memories! Have you seen/heard of Buoy Bells? They have a Puget Sound one you may enjoy for your lower deck area. Very realistic sounds if you love being on the water and hearing the buoys clang.

I love this post so much. <3 I find myself connecting to our house with the sounds it makes and the way I feel when I'm here, too. My parents always had wind chimes growing up and I really felt connected and grounded in our house when I would hear them. A few weeks ago, my hubby and I were out and about and I found these super inexpensive wind chimes at Home Depot with a little cardinal on them and a little propeller. Cardinals remind me of my Gramma… it was her maiden name and since she passed away several years ago I have had lots of magical experiences with unexpected cardinals! So these little unexpected wind chimes were such a fun find and I had to have them! We brought them home and hung them up and hearing them truly makes me feel more connected to our space, calmer, and they make me think of my Gramma saying 'hello' every time. :-)

Love wind chimes! Their music helps me to relax when I sit in my terrace after work day.
