Most of my life I lived in Lake Oswego, Oregon. It’s where I feel most “at home.” It’s not only where I grew up, but it’s where my husband and I lived when we were first married and where we raised our girls during their early years (until we moved to Eastmoreland, where we had our son!).
My parents still live in Lake Oswego, so it’s nice that we are able to “go home” to visit, even though it’s not to the same homes we used to have.
I thought I’d give you a little peek at just a few of the houses we drove by as we were buzzing around our old neighborhoods last week.
This (above) has always been one of my all-time favorite houses on the lake.
So charming, yes? It is just around the corner from one of the houses we lived in when I was in high school so I’d drive (or boat!) by it all the time.
Straight across the lake there (above) you can (barely!) see the home I lived in! It was such a beautiful house!
So many memories around this lake!
This house was for sale in one of the neighborhoods where we lived with our girls so many years ago.
It had the cutest garage; it looked like a guest house from the side.
This is a former neighbor’s home, I’ve shared it a few times on the blog, I’ve always been in love with this house. It’s still just as charming as ever!
I absolutely love the smell of jasmine!
Lots of homes had flags flying! The 4th of July is always a very festive time around the lake.
I love going on drive bys, but I always feel a bit homesick driving around the neighborhoods where I used to live. But, I’m always grateful for so many wonderful memories here!
Do you ever feel homesick for neighborhoods you think of as “home”?

Thank you for the tour. No wonder you love this area it’s just so beautiful. I am ready maybe not to move there but at least to visit. I hope I can make that happen one day. Perhaps we can meet for a walk around town. ?
How fortunate you have been to grow up and live now in such a beautiful part of our country! This area is on our bucket list for retirement days. Now I will be adding lake Oswego to the list . Thank you for sharing such beautiful pictures .
I grew up on Lake Ontario and summered on the Finger Lakes of New York State, especially Seneca. There is hardly a week that goes by that I don’t think about it and miss it. Nothing here in the south comes close to their beautiful clear waters, their size and loveliness. There are many wineries along the hills of several of them, and the views were always enchanting. I enjoyed your tour through Lake Oswego. Beautiful homes!
So many beautiful homes!!! Thx for sharing!
Why oh why can’t America have more of these beautiful neighborhoods? Such amazing creativity and craftsmanship. Thanks for the tour.
We used to live in Lake Oswego too! I just loved it! Such a beautiful place. Thanks for sharing the pictures.
My husband is from Lake Oswego! He graduated from Lakeridge a long, long time ago. When we got married in 1992 (reception at LO Country Club!) he really wanted to live in Lake Oswego but at that time there were very few young families so we headed out to Wilsonville and lived there for ten years. After ten years I had pretty much had it with the rain and dark winters so we moved to Austin, Tx. We love it here because Austin is like a sunny, hot, friendlier Portland.
Such a small world! I still LOVE the NW and the weather, but then again I don’t like hot so it’s perfect for me here! It definitely gets gray and rainy on many days from November to April but I love the change of seasons. I also like spending time inside in the winter, so I do OK with a bit of rain (and we had snow this year!). I figure I could always schedule a trip to Hawaii in January if I need to escape, ha.
Overall it’s so mild and pretty most of the year and no humidity or bugs so I love it. (I actually feel like our weather in Seattle must have improved over the past few years with so many more sunny days from May – October than I ever remember growing up!). I’ve never been to Austin but it’s on my list!
I’m happy that your drive-thru is so beautiful. I grew up very poor and in a very small town full of relatives and family friends. I sometimes go back and drive through, recalling childhood escapades with friends and remembering the family support and the freedoms that a small town allows. However, time has not been kind to that small town. Young people have left for greener pastures, once cared-for homes and lawns are neglected, and trash and junk have a way of finding refuge there. It’s sad, but it also makes me appreciate what I now have and to appreciate the hardship my parents suffered to provide as best they could.

We spent the first 32 years of our marriage in Raleigh Hills. Not as charming as Lake Oswego but the commonality was “no cookie cutter” homes. I always thought I would never leave that house but needs change and memories become gold.
They do! I love it, sometimes we do have to make a change and as hard as that can be, we get to hold onto the best of the past through good memories. And best of all, we can make new ones wherever we go!
Awe inspiring! I live in North Texas so our landscaping has a different Beauty about it but this takes the cake! Gorgeous!
i love when you do drive-bys – the houses are always is charming and beautiful and really give the feel of an area for those who have never been there. :-)
So…you grew up in a storybook??? What a way to cultivate your imaginations!
