How to add Character with Light Fixtures
Add character with light fixtures!

One of the more impactful yet simple ways to add character to a home is to give it an architectural personality. You can easily define and elevate the style of a space by simply switching outdated or underwhelming light fixtures.

Unique lights will make an impression and tell a story, so they are an excellent way to make any house your own!

Today I thought it would be fun to take a look at both my old house and this house to see how we incorporated my favorite Barn Light fixtures in each. I love these lights because they can be mixed and matched (or combined with other styles!) to get a totally unique look.

I use them in my home to design my own version of casual coastal beach house/farmhouse style! At the bottom of this post you’ll find the lights I have and the specifications on each.

Builder basic light fixtures lacking in personality don’t say much about a home or the homeowner, so they are one of the first things I like to change in the design of a home.

Barn Light Electric has a wide variety of styles and color options for each fixture. You can get creative in each room, resulting in an overall custom look for your home.

We recently added a driftwood orb chandelier over our kitchen island. It is amazing how something so small can add such a big impact! It added an instant coastal vibe to the kitchen

Melissa, what fun to see that pic of the fixture in your former home. The post you did on Barn Light Electrics back then in 2014 was my inspiration. However, it was the end of 2016 before it became a reality for me. I was dealing with a small U-shaped kitchen with a joke of a breakfast nook with 2 Texas size fluorescent boxes with a solar tube between them in the kitchen, one canned light over the corner sink by the windows, and an ancient and ugly fan next to a large square vent in the small breakfast area which was defined in depth by a standard patio door. As I’ve mentioned before, I should have had a peninsula where you did in your previous kitchen but Del Webb really believed in downsizing for retirees. I had done a mockup of what I wanted: oil-rubbed pendant lights and a small fan to match the dark window frames that define the house for me. But that was as far as I got until my brother from Missouri came down in October 2016 and not only improved my concept but also turned it into reality. I love my kitchen ceiling lighting setup and once again I have you to thank for the wonderful inspiration.
