When you arise in the morning,
think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive–
to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love —
then make the day count!”

Steve Maraboli

Is there a shift in the seasons yet where you are? I can already tell fall is trying to sneak away. Autumn is never long enough for me. I hope winter can hold off at least until all of the flowers have a chance to fade! I’m still enjoying it all!

I thought before fall gets too away from us, I’d share a few end of season images from my yard. I sometimes forget what I’ve shared here and what I haven’t. I always intend to share so much more, but it’s not easy to keep up with everything I intend to do! Anyone else relate?

I’m in so love with the beautiful hue of these hydrangeas right now. They start out pure white in summer, but the fading pink/coral/orange color they are now seems so perfect as a grand finale to fall! I love seeing the color on the other side of the white picket garden gates, too.

You can see the hydrangeas from last year when they were white (at the beginning of summer) in this post about our deck here.

The more seasons we live in this house, the more I notice I’m able to be observant of smaller details. I recognize even subtle changes in the leaves and blooms and how they change week to week, season over season. I start to appreciate how each plant changes and has grown from the year before.

There’s something so peaceful and refreshing in observing how a garden grows and evolves. I love experiencing familiar seasonal changes and rhythms in a home, especially in fall.

Those changes year over year and season over season are the special things you miss out on when you move every few years. Or even when you’re always rushing on to the next season or project.

It’s fun to look forward to what’s new, of course, but slowing down to just be present in and appreciate the here and now is my favorite.

Have you read my book Dwelling? Go here to order!

“We all want to feel that our home is our haven, but, in between the messes and everyday life, it can be hard to get to that point. In Dwelling, Melissa Michaels shares how to create a haven in your home, body, and spirit in a way that is both doable and uplifting, with words of encouragement and the sure knowledge of having experienced this difficulty firsthand. You won’t be able to put the book down because the steps and processes are ones you’ll want to implement as you’re reading it!”

I had to laugh at this. I read the first sentence and thought, “no, darn it”. I then read the second sentence and realized we were coming from two different perspectives. I live in Florida, and we’re still waiting for a shift into fall! LOL

    Have a wonderful weekend!

I’m in Florida too! It’s been so hot ? here this year, but I’m hoping the weather station is right and we get a glimpse of fall this weekend.

I hope you ladies’ fall is longer than mine. Here in Indiana we went from hot summer days to the furnace running nearly overnight. I have annual flowers remaining that should have been gone long ago, but the ground is holding the daytime heat so as to protect them. I should remove them to clean my flower beds, but don’t have the heart to do so.

I laughed too but for the opposite reason! We live in upstate NY and already have snow with more on the way next week. Too bad because our hydrangeas we’re really pretty until they got smooshed by the weight of the snow. I feel like we have bypassed Thanksgiving and are headed right for Christmas.

Hello … love both white gates, particularly the low picket. Are both gates wood or synthetic material? Deb Hayes
