Foraging for pretty flowers and greenery in my yard is one of my favorite seasonal activities! What’s not to love? Foraging is free, it’s therapeutic and flowers add beauty to a home, without clutter.
I just ordered this gardening book for myself for Mother’s day (anyone else buy presents for themselves? Ha!). I’m feeling inspired to design a cutting garden for our backyard. I dream of rows and rows of flowers!
Court and I spent a morning last week foraging the yard for a bouquet. Even without an official cutting garden, we found so many lovely flowers on our trees, shrubs and popping up around the yard. We aren’t even to peonies or rose or hydrangea season here yet, but we ended up filling so many vases with beautiful blooms and scents!
I thought I’d share some snapshots from our morning of flower foraging and arranging. We are not professional gardeners or flower arrangers, but that doesn’t matter. :) It’s still so fun and therapeutic. I hope these “May flowers” bring you as much joy as they brought to us.

Ahh, your lilacs are so lovely! The New England flower I miss most, living in the South :)
Flowers are such a beautiful touch to a room. Fantastic.
Karen
I can almost smell the lilacs!
They make me smile just looking at your wonderful pics! Going outside tomorrow to see what I can put together!
Have fun!! <3
Your garden is in such beautiful blossom, can’t wait for our terrace to start blooming too!
Hi Melissa,
Hopefully your lilacs haven’t drooped by now. They are infamous for wilting within hours of picking. I am sharing a link on how to cut and prepare them for maximum longevity in a vase, in case it helps for next time.

Enjoy! The bouquets look divine and I can smell them through the screen! Love the dark wine colored lilac, never saw that before. Stunning!
So very lovely! You’re so lucky to have so many beautiful plants to choose from!
The bouquet of lilacs on our dining room table is perfuming the house! Gorgeous time of year.
This is why I garden! I love cutting flowers from my yard and garden to use in the house!
Beautiful! I’m looking for a link to that blue double handled vase in your kitchen but can’t find one. Could you please share? :)
Envy your lilacs! My hubs keeps pruning mine at the wrong time of year:-) But the art catches my eye … can you give the source for the ocean picture in the kitchen and the tiny landscape behind the pretty mugs?
I love to gather from my yard too. Im also need to go to my attic and get some of the European style painting out to put in my kitchen. Thx for the inspiration.
Loved seeing your bouquets. Lilacs are NH’s state flower, my home state and they have remained one of my faves. That picture of the forget me not is gorgeous! I am a milk glass addict and smiled when I saw yours. Often times, they are so heavy, they work for topheavy arrangements.
