I can’t nail down one style. Our house is Spanish style in a new, modern build, and we added lots of blue and white talavera tile to make it a little more traditional. But, I have lots of chinoiserie lamps and ginger jars. I also have other blue and white pieces from Italy and Portugal. I have two huge and colorful Persian rugs. Plants are everywhere. I’d say our style is a mash up of beautiful things we love- many from extensive travels. This house is in the middle of an urban area and is tiny so there is no room for anything we don’t just absolutely adore. So, yeah, I’m going with a mash up style. :-)

We moved from a huge bay front family home & are now retired in NC. We have less than 1/3 the space, but kept favorite pieces & colors that work. We have neutral paint in all rooms (except bathrooms. Love red in 1/2 bath & a darker aqua in main) I fell in love w/ a red couch & have painted/distressed tables in light gray. A hanging quilt on one wall & a great print of a heron I found in a consignment shop. Our fireplace has NC stone to ceiling & we placed our Welsh pine furniture throughout the downstairs. Somehow, it works – homey & comfy❤️

Like Sharon, our style is ‘mash up’.:) Very eclectic, and all things we love. Lots of paintings everywhere as my husband is an artist, lots of photos, piles of books. Our master bedroom is shades of white and not a lot of ‘stuff’, so a quieter space. We do change around paintings, add/remove ceramic pieces or vases, pillows, throws etc., for the different seasons to create more warmth or a cooler feeling. I have learned things following you and reading your books.:)

I absolutely love this post…I am in between the Farmhouse Look that i have and love But wanting to go back to Who I really am with my love of Design. With all that has happened in the last few months I am finding that I am adding pieces with color and age back into my home. Finding that and what God is showing me in my personal life has made me feel more secure in Who I am as far what I live with and in helping others to decorate…Thank you for your blog that I have been following for several years…

I love this! Going back to who you are and embracing who you were created to be definitely will shape your most authentic style. And it will give you the confidence to help others find their style, too. Thank you for sharing, Kathleen and for following along with me here.

You are trouble my friend. No, you are an inspiration . I have thought about putting a jute rug in our entry way for the spring and summer months One of our locally owned home stores in Corvallis carries Dash and Albert rugs and is where we purchased our living room jute rug. They has a smaller version in stock Spending our money locally always warms my heart – especially now. Thank for the inspiration.

I love your site….I get ideas and inspiration. I live in an apartment in Florida. Coming from Hawaii to Florida I maintained my tropical style….it’s just me! In the living room my loveseat is moss green, and I have a small swivel club chair with patterned upholstery of palm trees and pineapples. My bamboo credenza serves as an entertainment unit for my TV and my favorite piece of art is a black and white of Diamond Head in Hawaii.

Sounds like a tropical perfect retreat to enjoy right in your own home!! Thank you!

I want my home to say “come in, sit down and relax”. It has taken some time to get to understand, that our things should not control us, they should serve us. Still “fighting” a bit with my husband about it ;-) He still want us to be careful not to scratch the floor etc. I am not careless, but I want to live in my home, not only take care of it.
I love white walls and lots of light, no carpets and not too much upholstery – but lots of books and flowers!!!

  7. Samantha

I think my home is traditional with a farmhouse flair. I love our leather couches and we just put in a library but I also love the farmhouse feel and the kitchen will look more like that when we get around to redoing it.
