Make Your Home Your Favorite Summer Vacation Spot

I‘m a homebody through and through but I still love to getaway from it all now and then! My ideal vacation is always a quaint hotel somewhere in a charming town. Add in a quiet cozy room with fluffy bedding, books piled high, good food and coastal air? I’m there. Of course you all know my dream is to visit Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard. It’s still going to happen someday, I won’t let that dream die.

Yet even back when traveling was more carefree, my philosophy has always been to make my home my favorite destination. Do you think of your home this way? It really spurs me on to move forward on projects I’ve been wanting to do or even to do little things around the house that make me feel like I’m on vacation every day.

If you could go anywhere this summer, where would you go? What room in your house feels the most like a vacation destination to you?

Coffee in the morning or an adult beverage in the evening on our screened porch feels like a vacation. In northern WI, we only use it for a few months a year but I furnished it like an indoor room. So comfy.

Definitely our sun porch, my favorite spot in the morning where I just sit; sipping my coffee and listening and taking in God’s creation. We live in Ohio so try to enjoy it as long as we can.

Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard…now you have me wanting to go back. My home is on Hauser Lake and to someone from the outside it is a perfect vacation setting. To me it is where I work continually. I can’t sit still and enjoy because as soon as I sit down I want to make improvements. It’s just the way I am. I love going camping and on vacation. I need to get away or I will work from dawn to dusk. Staycations just don’t work for me.

The one place I would love to go this summer is Cornwall in England, we have been holidaying there for so many years now that it just feels like coming home to me. Time to walk on the golden sandy beaches and sit by the harbour in Padstow, freshly caught fish, Cornish pasties and ice-cream to eat. So many happy memories.

I too love making our home the most comfortable place to be. We are all homebodies… We lived in the Seattle area for about 30 years and because of the weather we were often inside. My husband had a high stress job and I considered our home his sanctuary. He could come home and unwind in the low key environment. Now life has taken us to Idaho and lots of sunshine abounds so my focus is shifting to making the patio equally inviting and cozy. If I could go anywhere it would probably be a mountain cabin with a fantastic view, all the amenities, but most importantly all my kids and grandchildren with us!

I love your house and your blog. Love your taste!! I would love to know where you get your bamboo shades. I looked through the site and don’t see them listed anywhere. Sorry if I missed them. I love the ones in your dining room and also the ones pictured in the living room at the top of this article. Where are they from? I also love the curtains in the top pic as well. Would love to know where those are from too. Thank you so much!

    HI!
We are all homebodies by now😉
We live on Long Island NY.
    Enjoy our home year round.
We have been to Martha’s Vineyard
and Nantucket on our 39’ Sailboat⛵️
When you visit New England you could visit Cape Cod if you have the time.

My favourite place to visit would be Paris. My bedroom is most like Paris. I love your photos.
