Holiday Decorating for Every Room

by Melissa @ The Inspired Room on November 10, 2008

Do you all decorate every room in your house for the holidays? I do think there is something so enchanting and cozy about seeing a touch of holiday decor in bedrooms, bathrooms, hallways and the kitchen as well as the traditional living room and dining room. I am definitely a romantic about the holidays.

Decorating each room doesn’t mean you have to go crazy with excessive effort and expense. It is the simple and subtle ideas that make the most beautiful statements.

Even on a budget, as most of us are this year, there are ways to keep our holidays beautiful, warm and happy. A little time and thought with a dose of creativity can bring Christmas cheer to every room of your home:

  • Sprigs of greenery from the yard tucked in vases or jars
  • Homemade wreaths & ornaments hanging from beds, mirrors and windows
  • Wrapped boxes piled on nightstands and end tables
  • Christmas stockings on mantles and doors (make your own stocking instructions here)
  • Shiny ornaments in bowls and trays set in unexpected places
  • Ribbons tied around stacks of towels
  • Garland strung over bookshelves and bedframes
  • Mini trees in hallways and bedrooms

Enjoy this lovely photo inspiration from the ever beautiful magazine, Country Living. The images have got my wheels spinning and now I am really looking forward to the holidays!

Love these inspiring pictures you’ve shared! I try to put touches of Christmas all over our home.

I need some help decorating around a smaller flat screen tv over the fireplace mantel this Christmas! Please someone share some pictures of what you’ve done to soften this area.

I am in love with that fireplace!

I am revamping a lot of my decorations this year. A little “out with the old, in with the new” I suppose.

But some of my favorites will remain: the mini tree that graces the entry hall, our stockings, the basic big tree in the living room.

New: new wreaths for the front door & entry door, a new color scheme (bringing in blues & whites that will stay through January) & more fresh blooms.

But that will have to wait…I’m having too much fun with the Thanksgiving decorations at the moment!

Thank you for the Country Living photos…they’re always so charming. You know, I’ve become quite lazy about holiday decorating the past few years, but this year, you’re inspiring me to consider doing more. I think that I’ll begin jotting down some of these ideas in a holiday notebook. If I don’t plan for it, it won’t happen.

Have a great week, Melissa!

Yes, I do try to do a little decorating in every room. My kids have always loved having a tree in their rooms…I too am a Christmas romantic and it seems they have all inherited that from me! Last year our house was on a holiday home tour so I went over the top (even for me) I will scale it back a little this year.

Those photos make me look forward to Christmas even more! Love the simple greens and the coziness that holiday decorations bring! Baby #2 is due right after Christmas, so I’m debating whether I want to do much decorating, since I’ll have my hands full. But I don’t think I’ll be able to resist!

I usually decorate my kid’s rooms along with the common areas. My son has a log cabin room, so it’s perfect for Christmas decor! I like the silver and white tree in the photos above. My daughter gets a pink one like this in her room. She was singing “I Love Pink” a few minutes ago, so I think she’ll go bananas when she sees her Christmas tree:-)

All the photos are so beautiful. I like putting touches of Christmas in every room – sometimes just a bit of cedar or pine in a vase or jug tied with a jaunty ribbon. Christmas is my favourite holiday!

O.K. Everyone!! I have dibs on the bedroom with the dark four-postered bed with the greenery entwined around the posts, etc….Those pictures are gorgeous…why don’t we see if the creative soul who transformed the house shown will come to our houses and do the same for us…you know…as a sort of early Christmas present for all of us!! LOL I love reading this blog with all the beautiful pictures and great ideas…now, if I didn’t have 4 dogs, a cat, and 6 children running through the house…well…come to think of it, I’d rather have the kids running through!! Has anyone ever hung a Christmas tree from the ceiling??! If so, I need to know how it’s done!! Now…where are all those lights I bought at the after Christmas sale last year…hmm…

I love your blog……….it is very inspiring to me!!! I also LOVE Home Goods, I go there almost every other day – yes I am a bit of a Home Goods Stalker, can’t ever get enough. I bought some great little Christmas items today (three tiny apple green topiaries with a big ribbon tied around them, an apple green and cream stocking and a fun fuzzy little wreath – of course apple green with white pearls plunked about)………….I guess this year’s color scheme is Apple Green, Cream with a bit of red splashed in!
