How to Style a Mantel

This was my simple mantel last fall.

I did my spring mantel recently, but until I finish painting around it, I can’t really take a photo of it. It is all torn apart because of the painting going on in the room! It will look much better with the new paint behind it, anyway.

I love changing up my new mantel. I haven’t had a real mantel for quite awhile, so being in this house it is a fun treat to finally be able to update one for the seasons!

But it is sometimes hard to find enough photos for inspiration on how to style a mantel. There are so many options, from simple to complex!  I was really inspired by Layla at The Lettered Cottage’s comprehensive post (and series!) on mantels. Not only does she herself have a ridiculously beautiful mantel, but she has some great examples from her own mantel work for clients too. Check it out if you are wanting to create a new mantel-scape (is that a word?)!

What has inspired you all this week?

Link up your posts or share in the comments, and be sure to link back here so your friends can join in the fun! I love to hear what has inspired you all during the week. You can share decorating ideas, DIY projects, room makeovers or the simple things of life that inspire you! Be sure you link up directly to a post that relates to this topic (not to your general home page), and of course, link back here as well.

Here is a heads up on something, I have a giveaway that I hope to have posted in the morning that is great for everyone, but it is a MUST enter if you have a blog or a business you’d like to promote! I have a BIG opportunity that I have been working on behind the scenes, and I would like to SHARE with you! It is gonna be huge. Be sure to check out the giveaway tomorrow!

I don’t even have a mantel :( but I do have a console table where I like to display different things at different times. I have a large collection of owls so they get rotated once a week (I don’t think it would be a good idea to display 150 owls at the same time!)
So nice of you to host this party every Friday. I have found lots of really great blogs.
Thanks once again Melissa, your blog is truly inspiring and not only on Fridays!

I miss having a mantel! Trying to make window sills make up for it is tricky. Then again here is Sweden there are many options for unique window sill lights, very popular here in the winter. I am grateful to have the sun returning again soon!

I adore beautifully put together mantels. For me, they’re mini shrines full of symbols of what’s important to us. The old Greek word for hearth is used for ‘home’, too. And mantel-scape should be a word!

When we remodeled we took out an old gas fireplace/stove and lost the only mantle we had in the house. I love decorating a mantle for the different seasons and can’t wait until we add on and put in another fireplace and mantle. I love the simplicity of your mantle and can’t wait to see more of it very soon!

Thanks for hosting again. I just changed up my mantel yesterday. I’m loving it, but still might add something else after I live with it for a day or two.

As a current apartment-dweller, I so wish we had a nice fireplace and mantel for me to decorate. Forget the fire inside, I just want a nice mantel to style! :)

Our mantle has all our Christmas cards on it right now. We decorate the mantle for Thanksgiving and probably a couple other times throughout the year, but there are times that it’s pretty bare. It seems like you really love decorating yours – great work!
