HomeGoods: Happy Spring Trends!

I know many of you are HomeGoods fans like I am!

The thing I love about a store like HomeGoods is I can buzz in and pick up a few new accessories to give my home a quick seasonal makeover, without spending a lot of time or money. For busy people like me, that is a very good thing. Since I have a really full and busy schedule most days, I can’t always spend all day on a home improvement project. But with HomeGoods, at least I can still enjoy something new and fun around my house!

This season I have already picked up a few new things.

My favorite updates this season so far have been lamps, pretty bottles and white pottery and dishes (my standard collection!).

This is a HomeGoods lamp I’ve had for a couple of months.
I got the lampshade separately, but it is fun to mix things up sometimes.
You don’t have to limit yourself to how something looks when you buy it!
That is part of the fun, adding your own touch to make it personal and unique.

This dining room buffet and wall is going to keep changing and evolving. My plan for this wall is floor to ceiling board & batten (yeah, my “old house self”  is still there!). I think it will give it a lot of character and more architectural interest! Now if I could just find enough time to do it.

Once the walls are done I’ll be able to really get a feel for what accessories will look best.

The backdrop of a room can change everything! Whether you freshen your wall color, put up some wallpaper or add wood, making a change to the walls really can make a difference to how a room feels.

I prefer to keep my accessories simple and unfussy, so adding the board & batten will help me achieve the look I imagine for this space.

Here is another lamp I got at HomeGoods fairly recently. Again, I mixed up the lampshade. It came with a pure white one but I decided I needed to warm things up a little so I switched it out for this one I got from another store. I might cover the pure white one for another lamp. This wall will also be receiving the board & batten treatment! No more swine colored walls.

For a few years I’ve been picking up all sorts of glass apothecary jars, bell jars, bottles and vases. Now when I see a pretty one I just add it to my growing collection. With the light from the window is hard to get a photo of how pretty they are, but I really like having them in front of the window because the colors looks so pretty.

I moved my HomeGoods lanterns from the wintry fireplace mantel and put them on these little half walls between the living room and dining room. I keep battery operated candles in them so they turn off and on after dark so I don’t have to worry about safety. I will probably move the lanterns outside in to the porch in the summer.

My spring mantel is not done because we are still painting the walls in this room. That one section of painted wall you can see on the left is all that is done, yeah, we have to move slowly! For the mantel I want to add a plant to my pot on the mantel to bring a little life and soften that corner. I took down my green apples because they just felt too much like fall to me. You can see I have added a couple of bottles and white dishes to lighten the look for spring.

I also changed out the books that were on the mantel to tone down the fall and winter colors and picked book covers that were more in the fresh blue and green tones. Books can make me think about winter, but they can also make me think about an afternoon at the beach or swinging on a hammock, so I use them year round. This mantel will continue to evolve once we are done with the wall paint. I might get a new more springy wreath too.

Well, those are some little peeks around my ever changing and evolving house. Nothing big, but little changes add up.
