It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like...
{and giveaways}

Is it beginning to look a lot like Christmas at your house? Honestly, my house it looks a lot like moving day and only a little bit like Christmas. OY. Boxes and stuff strewn about everywhere {shakes head in shame}.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like...
{and giveaways}

How on earth did I end up with so many Christmas boxes? I had to run in the living room just now and take a photo so you could see a small glimpse of the horror — it is crazy. Must get better organized for next year and eliminate about half the decorations. Seriously. I’m way too in to “simple” to have that much stuff. Not to mention my house is 2,000 square feet smaller than our last house. I really only needed a few things this year, but WHERE are they? Time to regroup. Clearly.

So while I am having a “moment” around my house trying to get things in order, I thought it would be fun for a holiday giveaway!

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like...
{and giveaways}OH MY WORD! Aren’t these the cutest.bunny.slippers.EVER?! I would wear these all day if I had them. Gina from Feather Your Nest is sweet enough to be offering one lucky reader of The Inspired Room their own special bunny slippers! You can choose adult or kids sizes.

Feather Your Nest has some of the best things in her shop, have you browsed around her site? One visit would make holiday shopping a breeze!

“Is it beginning to look a lot like

My home looks like Christmas threw up out of storage totes! I have not moved since 2000 but the amount of great holiday decorations is so over whelming! Desided last year to buy one special item each year and an orniment dated special for each boy! That is it! Btw I would LOVE those slippers!! Great blog – god bless

  2. Gail

We are scaling down a bit this year – 3 trees instead of 5!

  3. Candy

It doesn’t look like Christmas at my house yet. But, we plan to shop for our Christmas tree this week. Last year we took our daughter to 5 Christmas Tree Lots before she found the perfect tree. Also on the agenda is pictures with Santa. I’m glad my 6 year old still wants her photo taken with him. I knew the 3 year old would.

It is starting to look a little like Christmas at my house. I didn’t feel like bringing all the boxes down from the attic yet, so I have been going up and down the attic stairs getting a handful of decorations at a time. Crazy, I know, but its good exercise and I can carefully place things as I go! We bought our tree last night, so I will be bringing all the boxes down by Friday when we will decorate our tree.

It’s looking a little bit like Christmas here at my house. I was out and about yesterday and found some really cute ideas. I hope to have my decorating done by the weekend. How I would love to have those cute slippers!!!

Those bunnies are TOO CUTE! And my teen daughter would LUV them. Yes, it looks like Christmas here! My tree is up, the mantel is 90% (missing something trying to figure that out) and I made a wreath for my front door. I also ADORE your stockings!!! Please share if you made them or where you picked them up.

    Thanks for the chance!

My house is totally decked out for the holidays already. YAY

  10. Sandy Blaxland

Up until last night, yes! My house looked like a bomb went off. I have the decorations up (but not the tree) and, after 3 days, I tidied. But come this Saturday and Sunday when the tree arrives, it’ll be total chaos once again!

(And I have just as many — or more — boxes as you do.)

Please enter me for the bunny slippers! Thanks.

For the first time in 14 years of marriage our tree was not up the day after Thanksgiving. We have been renovating our living room and dining room and the mess is more than I could bare to bring decorations in to. On a brighter side, if all goes well, it will be finished by the weekend, so I will have to rush to have the house ready by our first holiday gathering on Sunday evening!

    I am ready for it!!

It definitely looks like a bomb went off here – Christmas stuff and not-finished-unpacking-from-the-move stuff. Yuck. I’m determined to be finished by the end of this week!

A big yes! I have made it through the “it looks like I am moving” phase and have almost finished. I am with you on downsizing the decorations. I have simplified my decorating considerably over the years but still find it had to get rid of things I don’t use. This will be the year I purge:)

It is definitely looking like Christmas at my house. The tree is up and the wreaths on all the doors. It is still a work in progress.

  15. Aimee

My house looks like your house right now! Boxes everywhere! But hopefully the decorating will be done in the next few days and we’ll be back to normal soon!

By the way, LOVE your stockings!

It most certainly looks more like a bomb went off. A pile of boxes in the office and a hole in the dining room ceiling where DH stepped through getting them out of the attic! The plasterer is coming and the entire dining room has to be stripped so he can work which means more mess. It’s all ok though, I’m taking it in stride and decorating around the mess for now:>)

Oh it so is! I can’t believe it, but I’ve someone managed to keep the Christmas explosion of boxes being unpacked minimized by only bringing out one at a time. Even my husband commented that he was amazed – lol! We have two trees up(in the tiniest house, but we don’t care!), stockings up, books out, Nativity Scene out, Christmas pjs out – we’re good to go and it’s such a cozy feeling:) Happy Holidays to all – hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of the celebrations and joyfulness!

Oh, these slippers are SWEET!! I’d love to win them!!

Since a fall 2 weeks ago, where I injured my RIGHT hand, wrist (and of course, I’m right-handed) and knee, I’ve done very little, if anything. So…no, our house is not beginning to look like Christmas…………………………MUCH!! Unless, you count….YES, that works….COUNT THE CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS I’VE BEEN ORDERING AND RECEIVING from ARTISANS on Blogs, eBay and Etsy. They’re strewn about the house.

Does that count? You betcha it does!! LOL!!!

It’s looking and smelling and feeling like Christmas! We did the first round of decorations- which included our tree. We cozied up the living room with soft pillows and throws and we’ve got Christmas Eve (from Yankee Candle) burning when we’re home. We’re spending nights reading by tree light and having friends and family over to watch movies- the fun has begun!!

No Christmas yet… We too are in a new house and I have to rethink how to use my old things (but really I just want to go out and buy all new decorations!) I promised myself this weekend I’m just doing it – no excuses!

  24. Christina

For the few days after Thanksgiving, my house looked like yours – lots of boxes, a little of Christmas decor. Now, it’s all cleaned up, and it DOES look a lot like Christmas. :) It was a bit of a challenge decorating this year. Our apartment is small, and I don’t have a lot of space to place decorations without everything looking cluttered. I kept it simple, but I love the way it came out! I plan to post photos soon on my blog. :)

  25. Cheri

Mmmm…a mixture! We have a bunch of Christmas stuff out, but the house is a disaster as always. And very little of what we have actually suits our house/my current taste. But oh well…’tis the season to simplify and not fret about it. Although your stockings/mantel picture inspires me–it’s beautiful!

  26. Bonnie Mattson

We are leaving for a month in Italy in just ten days. I am not decorating this year but I have filled that need to do it by going to several shops and just taking it all in. I cannot believe how much I want to do it but know that putting it all away in mid-January would be a big pain. So this year just a few new things to add to the collection of Christmas boxes are gracing our home.

What I have noticed is how much less stress I am feeling. The Savior’s birth and the trip to see our daughter, her hubby and 2 of our grandboys is my focus…we haven’t seen them in just under two years. When you just say no to the things you think you HAVE to it is amazing what happens. Absolutely nothing earth-shattering. 99% of our stress is self-imposed.

I do look forward to doing the things I really want to do next year knowing that the rest can be left undone with no major consequences. Next year I am going to simplify.

  27. Kathy

Mine is looking like Christmas! Yay! I’ve always tried to organize my Christmas bins {i.e. ornaments, mantle stuff} but I know I can do a little better. Plus, I like to go through and purge. Almost like with my clothes ~ if I haven’t used it in two Christmases it goes.

  28. Amanda

Still deciding whether to put up the tree this year or not. We won’t be here for actual Christmas AND my 11-month old daughter likes to pull & climb on everything. I’m picturing it being more of a headache right now than and enjoyable thing. =) BUT…I have an almost 4 year old who would love it, so…..we’ll see. No decorations up yet.

  29. Spring

Yes! As Christmasy as it will get, but I am very happy with it. We lost most of our decorations to water damage/mold, but had just enough left to cover our tree with loveliness, and put 3 2D gold trees on the bookcase. We got branches from a bush in our backyard, put them in pretty vases I already had, and hung mini ornaments on in them that we have never used for anything. Just need some more candles and the stockings up!

Lots of boxes. However, banging my leg into a pile of bins in the middle of the night while returning to bed after feeding my newborn was my motivator to try to finish today. Here’s hoping!

  34. Jeannie

Those creamy white stockings are beautiful. My house is more on the side of a Christmas mess, trying to decide where things go, but I have to see it all spread out to know. Those bunny slippers are pretty darn cute. Just what I need to keep my forever cold feet warm. Christmas blessings to you!

  35. Teresa

It does not look much like Christmas at our house. I just hung our Advent calendar last night and my fall/Tgiving decorations are still up. The plan is to get started this weekend.
    I love the bunny slippers!

  36. Michelle

The bomb stage is now over and its beginning to look ALOT like CHRISTmas at my house! All the nasty red and green boxes have gone back into hiding. Those bunny slippers would love to come live at my house!

About a week ago it looked like I was decorating my house in rubber maid totes. Now with the totes gone we are happy to have a simplified Christmas. I only used about 1/2 of our stuff and the simple transformation has been heavenly. I too have jumped on the simplified less is more band wagon. I really need a pair of cute bunny slippers. I don’t have any slippers right now and my 3 girls would love seeing mommy walk around sporting those cute bunnies. Pick me! Pick me! Please Pick me! lol

Yes, it is looking very much like Christmas around here. For the first time ever, this control-freak/perfectionist/this is how I want my tree to be mom let my girls (11 and 10) decorate the tree. The WHOLE tree. All by themselves. I didn’t touch it. And it is the most beautiful tree we’ve ever had.

I decided to down scale the decorating this year. We have some outdoor lighting and wreaths on the outside of our home. This year I decided to go with a much simpler and natural looking decorating theme inside. I am still sorting through containers of decorations and will be doing some serious “thinning” of way too much stuff. Love the slippers!

  45. Gail

It looks like Christmas here! Just need to decorate the tree tonight. Although, looking at your stockings and garland on the mantle makes me want to toss all my decorations and start all over again.

I can get my home decorated in less than an hour because it is organized and not excessive. I too have downsized and realize I don’t want it to look like Christmas threw up in my home. It all looks like clutter the day after Christmas anyway!

    Good luck finishing up!

My house looks like a bomb went off in it but is an organized bomb. Last year my husband got fed up with me having him haul down tubs of stuff that I only pulled one or two items out of so I organized all of my bins and the attic so I knew just what to bring down. Everything is labeled and it was a whole lot easier to decorate this year. Love your site and ideas. I would also love those slippers to keep my feet worm as I curl up on the couch to read all the blogs I follow.

  51. mg

we don’t have any room for christmas decorations, so it looks just like normal around here :(

For a while it really did look like a bomb went off here with the Christmas disaster that was. Our house is also about 2,000 square feet smaller than our last house and I swear I have so much “stuff”. I am seriously scaling down and since my tastes have changed – some “stuff” just needs to go. I’m a much simpler gal than I used to be.

  55. Adrienne

Oh, your post and photo today makes my heart feel so at home! That’s exactly what’s about to happen at my house – this evening my sweetheart will bring all the boxes and containers down from the attic and it will look like a bomb just went off. Like you, I’m into simple this year and I plan to do much less decorating and a lot more clearing out and getting rid of decorations. My dear daughter moved and needs to ‘upsize’ her decorating so I’ll pass some along to her – others will ‘bless’ the local thrift store or nearby Goodwill. Thanks for the encouragement, the comraderie and the fun of sharing the reality of behind-the-scenes Christmas decorating.

It doesn’t ever look like Christmas at my house because I don’t decorate for the holidays! My husband and I always go back to our hometowns for Christmas so we’re never around to enjoy the decorations.

  61. Violet

Very Christmasy here now! Yay!!! Still need to decorate the tree though. I love the decor of Christmas, it is so cheerful and colorful,
after I put it all away, I feel a sense of loss…. the house feels so naked at first! It is so much fun to take all the decorations out of the bins and be reminded of what is there. I seem to have lost our large Saint Nick though. Poor guy is out in the garage somewhere…

  71. Kim

I have now sorted and cleaned up from the huge mess I made….we closed our business last year so I had all my christmas decorations from there as well as my home ones. The three trees are up and the mantle is done! Oh, now I have a little guy who wants me to find one of his Santa hats to wear…back to the buckets I go. Happy
    Day.

  72. Cheryl

Yep, definitely like Christmas (and not like a cyclone went threw spewing Christmas stuff) – but I have far fewer boxes of decorations, so that helps – and last year, I took advantage of the sales to get plastic storage boxes and finally got stuff into those and out of the bazillion half-falling-apart cardboard boxes of every possible type. After that, we could actually put almost everything in one closet in the house. Man, did that make this year easy.

(The wreath, and three miniature trees were still in separate containers in the pantry – the big tree was in the garage. This year’s goal is to get those into a plastic box as well. Except for the big tree. That just ain’t gonna fit.)

If by “looks like christmas” you mean I have a “porch tree” (that I borrowed form m y mom to use as a christmas tree) up and a vase with orniments and 2 candles, then yes, I’m all decorated. I’m not worried, it’s mine and my husbands first Christmas together (he was deployed to Iraq last year) so I think it’s fine to not have much right now.

Not yet. I am pondering not decorating this year – and I cannot even believe I’m saying that. However, I am planning a wedding, so my house is overrun with that stuff, I may be moving soon if US immigration decides to FINALLY, after a year of waiting, let my fiance move here from England and so I am thinking I might give this year a pass. I will, however, enjoy many of the sights to be seen on blogs and at friend’s houses.

Right now it’s a cross between Fall and Christmas … my grand plans to get the tree up last weekend did not come to fruition! I’ve got my fall things up, wrapped Christmas presents and boxes everywhere! At least my iTunes Christmas mix is organized and perfect! :)

  91. Stephanie

P.S. Love your christmas stockings in this post! Did you make them or buy them … and if so, WHERE?

Those white stockings are GORGEOUS! I couldn’t dare hang them in my house, though. Too many sticky little fingers…LOL!

It is beginning to look like Christmas at my house…slowly but surely. Every year I feel like we have SO MANY more boxes than decorations, though! I open them up and set it all out and say, “That’s it?” Must – keep – collecting!!! (Husband would hate me for saying that!)

  94. TCLinda

Holy comments, batman! Well, at my house it is NOT beginning to look like Christmas yet… we sent off our youngest to college. He was home for Thxgiving, but I’m just not motivated to decorate yet. I have to be in the moood…. I hope to have it done by the time he comes back for Christmas, but it would be more fun if he were here. I do like to dig thru the detrius of the years, though. So enjoy those little ones, becuz the time does fly!!! Oh, and if I DID have those bunny slippers, I WOULD wear them all day, becuz I work at home!!! yay!

  95. andifoo

Not till tomorrow – that’s when we’re going to pick out our Christmas tree! The decorations will be hauled out of the basement, lights will be strung from here to howdy. The hubs will be mumbling words under his breath we’d rather our 2 year old not repeat as he attempts to untangle the lights I tried to convince him last year to NOT wad up & throw in a tote. Christmas music will play, hot chocolate will be served as we decorate the tree as a family. This is my first year hosting Christmas Eve dinner here in our new home and I am so stinking excited!! eeeeeeeeeee! Merry Christmas, everyone!

  96. Kimberly

Looks like a bomb of ferns went off! Christmas trees and branches everywhere!

  97. flybabymom

Well, it’s still kind of war-zone-like. :) Actually, it’s going to get quite a bit worse before it gets better! But by this time next week it should all be done–hopefully by Sunday evening it will look like Christmas instead of bomb-shelter…

  98. Susan

Definitely looking a lot like Christmas…Christmas AFTER the nuclear holocaust. Boxes everywhere. Rearranging ornaments and lights on the tree as I go along. Stockings draped over the chairs. Garland unwound all over the living room.

    I love it :)

I have had most of my decorations out for about 3 weeks, but I have yet to get the tree out. So, very soon a bomb will have gone off at my home as well, as I see how many sections of my “pre-lit” tree are still lit this year and get out all the boxes of ornaments and lights! Happy decorating!

  100. amydeanne

i admit it, our house looked like christmas a few weeks ago. Being Canadian, my thanksgiving isn’t so close, so right after rememberance day here (the 12th of N.) stuff goes up!

Well, it looks about as much like Christmas as it’s going to (except for the Christmas tree which we’ll be adding next week) – with an 18 month old in the house! I’ve decorated everything that I can that’s out of his reach! I’m sure he’d have a great time grabbing at those bunny slippers if I was wearing them around the house, though!! :) Maybe they’d even keep him from grabbing the Christmas tree? Wishful thinking…I know!

  103. Teri

No, not yet. But this weekend.

and, I so need these- I’ve worn out my bunny slippers and they can be a challenge to find!

Looks like Christmas in my house! It is tradition in my home to decorate the tree on Thankgiving night. That way I have more than a full month to enjoy everything. This was the first year my son, Brice age 3, helped me decorate the Christmas tree. Every night we sit in the living room, reading Christmas stories and looking at the lights on the tree. He is so very proud of himself for helping put the toys (decorations) and dots (christmas balls) on the tree this year. Merry Christmas everyone!

  106. Spencer

I actually just posted about the chaos at my house….and wondered if everyone makes a mess while they create……It does look JUST like a bomb went off. Why can’t I be neat?

Slowly, things stored away in boxes all year are making their way up the stairs. There’s a hint of Christmas in our house. Most of the presents are hidden away, but the decorating – well, not nearly there. I reward myself after an hour or two of studying for finals by saying, “okay, now you can put up the nativity set,” “now you can hang the garland on the staircase,” “now you can put the snowflakes in the windows.” It’s very piecemeal this year. But I’m enjoying the process and soon, I hope, everything will be serene and twinkly.

We are in this house for a year and the storage is awful so I know where nothing is….but hopefully I can purge some this year because there is just way too much but with the Army you never know where you will be next Christmas so I hate to get rid of something and then next year be in a different house wishing I still had the item. We traveled out of town for Thanksgiving and flew back Sunday morning, it was about 11:30am when we got back to our apartment… and yes, I was insane enough to start Christmas decorating as soon as I had unpacked our suitcases (at least I unpacked first). :-P So we were 90% done by Sunday night when I went to bed. I finished up with the last little touches of garland last night. ^_^ Granted, I only decorated our front rooms and we live in a 980 sq ft apartment, that makes it pretty easy. Just one thing left, string lights on our sliding glass door.

Not really decorating this year. My house is too small and is in a state of remodel. So I will make up for it by helping my parents deck out their house. We always celebrate on Christmas eve at their house with all five of us siblings and our extended families and whoever else just wants to show up. Mom and Dad are edging up to the high side of seventy and all the decor is getting a bit much for them so with help from my sister and our daughters we are going to do the decorating for them. Right before reading your blog entry, I was debating whether the Christmas decorations will even be coming out this year. I’m in the middle of a very stressful semester at school and just seem so disorganized. I’m afraid that if I bring out MORE stuff that I will be even more overwhelmed. I’m sure I will end up compromising and put at least some of the stuff out. I don’t have kids, so I’m not “depriving” anyone (but myself, maybe?) of not going “all out” this year. Trying to simplify a bit, I guess!! (Except one can always make room for a pair of bunny slippers–LOL!)

  173. Lynn L.

Well, a little bit. We moved into an apt. recently after selling our house and not finding a house to move right into. So, we are very cramped and all of our Christmas stuff is in storage. So, to compensate for the lack of decorations this year, I bought the girls (have 3) a hot pink tree (that they can use next year in our soon to be playroom in our recently purchased home -yay!) that they have decorated themselves with ornaments they have made. Not so bad after all!

Actually no, my house looks like fall still. My husband’s birthday is on the 10th and we have a family rule that Christmas doesn’t officially start until the day after his birthday. I think as a kid he got his birthday passed over a few times for the holiday. I get so eager once the 11th rolls around that we put lights up in the day and then go tree hunting in the evening.

My poor house just looks confused. I have fall decor strewn in odd places. My Christmas stuff is trying to shine through, but the piles are never ending because I can’t find what I need. Maybe I just need to go shopping for more stuff?

Hi! It is my plan to at least put up the outside lights today! I have a 1920’s bungalow with a front porch that looks so cute with sparkly lights.

It always looks like a bomb went off at my house. But right now it looks like a Christmas bomb went off. When are they going to start making bombs that clean up after themselves?

Well, it was looking alot like Christmas, until the carpet installers called and I had to stop everything to get new carpet. Now I am not complaining, mind you, but it does look a little like a bomb went off here with a little Christmas thrown in.

It is ‘starting’ to look like Christmas…..brought out the boxes, and got out some decorations and found a place for them…..others are still hanging out in the boxes! Promised kid’s that tomorrow night is the night for the tree.
    Cute slippers!

My blog post from a few days ago includes a photo of my living room with all the Christmas boxes everywhere, the word OY, and the sentence “How did I get so many boxes of Christmas things?” So, yeah, I know exactly what you are going through!

Love those slippers especially since our furnace went out this week!
Toasty toes. I love your stockings. Did you make them?
    Blessings,

It’s been a busy two weeks with out-of-town guests here for Thanksgiving and a full work week as well as catch-up on the home front after guests left. Starting this weekend, we’ll: purchase a live Christmas tree, hang the stockings onthe fireplace, hang the wreath decorate the tree and start baking gingersnap cookies. I haven’t even pulled out the boys’ wooden advent calendar (but I have all the goodies to fill it). I did pull out all my Christmas CDs this week, so the music has definitely put us in the mood for the season.
