A Painter and Dash & Albert Rug {A Kitchen Update!}

Dash & Albert Catamaran Striped Runner

I‘ve always been totally smitten by striped rugs in kitchens.  So when Wayfair gave me the opportunity to receive a new rug, I couldn’t resist a new Dash & Albert runner for in front of my sink. Rugs are always great for layering and bringing warmth and style to a space.

No need to worry if you spill, this rug is an indoor outdoor rug, so that means it is way more durable than a rug that cannot take abuse or be cleaned. Plus a runner is so easy to move, if you think you are going to be extra messy with your spaghetti sauce you just just roll it up and move it while you go crazy with the sauce.

It’s been all rolled up in the corner collecting remodeling dust for awhile, so excuse that is was just thrown down there at random with no rug pad or any primping (and let’s also pretend there is no painter’s tape or dust on the cabinets). I don’t really want to use the rug for real until my kitchen is all painted, since it is more of a finishing touch thing.

One thing I decided when I picked this rug was order two of the exact same runners. Then I won’t be quite so sad when someone spills on it right before company comes. All I will have to do in case of crisis whisk it away to hose it down (the beauty of indoor/outdoor rugs) while whipping out the spare before anyone notices. Actually that was not my original plan for this rug, although it is a great idea I’m thinking of stealing from myself. I originally was going to use both runners at the same time in the kitchen and hall area but until the kitchen is painted I am not 100% certain where the rugs will go.

So finally some good news related to my kitchen remodel…I *think* I’ve found my kitchen cabinet painter. Thanks to one of my faithful local readers suggestions, yay Barbara! YAHOO! And if all goes according to plan, my kitchen will FINALLY be painted next week. Knock on wood. Longest remodel ever, it seems. I don’t even care if getting my kitchen painted right now means my Christmas decorating is delayed another week or if we do less holiday decorating. I know it will make a mess but I’m just so eager to get these projects done!

We have our new beautiful new cabinet hardware all ready to go (oooh, and I need to show it to you! Almost forgot)! I just went through and marked the cabinet doors that need to have some holes filled for different hardware (thus the painter’s tape) so I could talk to the painter about what needed to be done.

I am also going to attempt a little project on a few of my new cabinet pulls with a nifty new tool I got called a Dremel, I’ll tell you about that when I show you the hardware in a future post.

I can’t wait until the cabinets get painted, we are on the homestretch now!

Cheers to all you last minute project warriors still going strong on house projects 24 days before Christmas. We’ve still got time, right? {High Fives all around}.

Thanks to Wayfair for providing the Dash & Albert striped runners. For more awesome rugs, check out their great selection!

  1. I bought my first Dash and Albert in Cannon Beach. The indoor/outdoor rug seems perfect for a kitchen.

  2. Love the new rug on your pretty new floors!

  3. Love the new rug! I’m a big fan of indoor/outdoor carpets too. They come in such nice patterns now and are soooo super easy to take care of!

  4. Your dogs are sooo cute! Indoor outdoor carpets are the best way to go with kids and dogs! I love them :-)

  5. Glad that you’re on the homestretch…both my kids are in major house projects right now so I understand the thought of Christmas decorating delayed.

  6. I have one in the entry at the mill house…..light blue.
    Happy day

  7. 24 days before Christmas is last minute? I was going to congratulate you on planning ahead!

  8. Rug goes super with your flooring! Yes, high fives, my granite comes in Tuesday!

  9. Well call me slow but I never thought of using an indoor outdoor runner in my kitchen…duh…I wish I could tell you all I have done in my home in the last 4 months(not remodeling, more of redecorating )and that you and your blog have given me the OK I needed to make our home work for us…new furniture in every room, and all that goes with that….This little tidbit about the indoor/ourdoor rug is but a small piece of all I have learned from your blog…Thanks so much,
P.S. Jack makes all your rooms just”POP”…LOL

  10. I LOVE the new runner! Stripes in kitchens just make me happy, too. ;-) So looking forward to seeing your cabinets once they’re painted. You are a trooper!

  11. I just noticed you said Wayfair. I had never heard of them before but was doing a google search for pink luggage and found them. They were thirty dollars cheaper than Overstock and free shipping. I think they’re going to be one of my new faves. I’m so glad to see you use them so now I know they’re good!!

  12. A little blue and white strip runner would make my heart glad too! So happy for you to have found a painter. Hope it goes better than expected. :D

  13. Oh my gosh! I haven’t been this excited for Christmas in so long!! In 2008 my mom passed of lung cancer and my niece diagnosed with breast cancer. in early 2009, our son-in-law was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer which had spread to his lungs, and then my husband wasp transferred to Virginia and we had to leave Denver and leave them alone. in early 2010, my sister (mother of niece with cancer) was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. In 2011, we lost our son-in-law, and three months later, my sister. This year, my niece is very, very ill and is not expected to be with us very long, leaving four children behind. My husband was laid off last month, but of course, we are like many looking again for a job, and in the big picture, nothing to whine about, considering… The good news, is that two of our children and their families wil be “home” with us for Christmas, and I am so thankful for that. There isn’t a lot of money, but I have lists for baking, and cleaning, and “to dos” -,and it makes me so happy just to know our house and hearts will be full. I must leave the rest in God’s hands and just be thankful for this. The world’s troubles won’t disappear, but I can love, enjoy and be thankful, for what and who are under our roof. And maybe a blanket of snow and tiny reindeer paws. ;)

  14. I was just looking on line at some indoor/outdoor Dash and Albert rugs for our cabin and was curious at the feel underfoot . . . I want to use them in our living room and want something durable, sand-waterproof, yet appealing to bare feet. Would you get these rugs for everywhere in your house or just high utility spots (aka kitchen/laundry room). Thanks.

    • I would use them anywhere! The indoor outdoor are a little stiffer but they have all kinds of cotton and wool varieties. I’d use indoor outdoor anywhere though! They are a great cottage casual rug! Dash & Albert makes great rugs!

  15. Clicking over to the rugs immediately. I have been needing just such a thing for awhile. Ours are all trashed.

  16. It is perfect for each rug to be cleaned especially when you have a dog in your home. Nice post!

  17. The rug is inspirational. I am switching to a little blue in my house also after many years of the green and taupe. Best of luck with the painting.

  18. Jack is the PERFECT accessory in your home. Love to see him in your posts and read about all his antics. I have my own Lab that I love dearly..and like Jack he would find himself entitled to plop right down on my new rug…with NO SHAME.

  19. I adore this runner. I love the clean stripes for the kitchen. They add brightness and whimsy to the kitchen. The color is wonderful too! Thanks for sharing.

  20. Melissa I love your floors so much. What kind are they? We put down faux hardwood temporarily til we could afford real. As I said in another comment our home was built in 1831 and it’s just begging for beautiful real wood floors.

  21. Thanks for the article a couple of days ago about the sale at Dayspring. I have been wanting the Willow Tree nativity set forever, so I ordered it and love it. I got the discount and free shipping. You can’t beat a deal like that!

    Thanks again!

  22. A cabinet painter – I may need to steal that name too!

  23. I have always had a love for stripes. I think the rugs would look FAB in a beach home!!

  24. Kathleen says

Love the kitchen!! Is the rug more gray or blue? Thank you.
