It’s hard to imagine anything cozier on a chilly fall day than being all curled up right next to a fireplace. So Hygge, right? Even though it is probably not quite cold enough to light a fire or even hide under a blanket, it’s not at all too early to start designing your living space around the fireplace in anticipation.
Here are 7 things you can do right now to enjoy a cozy fall fireplace:
1. Pull comfortable chairs in a little closer to the fireplace to create a cozy focal point.
2. Add a rug for softness (not so close to be a fire hazard, of course! Safety first).
3. Set up a basket for books and a comfortable footstool nearby so you can put your feet up!
4. Make sure you have your fireplace tools ready (or invest in new tools like this log holder and fireplace tool set)
5. Even if you don’t use your fireplace to burn fires, you can still decorate it with logs or candles for ambience. I got these pretty birch logs for mine, and I think this fireplace candleholder is so cool!
6. Order a log carrier for convenience and character. I think this leather log carrier would be so cute next to the fireplace.
7. Decorate your mantel for fall! Branches, pumpkins, framed art, candles, whatever inspires you! What will go on your mantel this year?

My fireplace mantle is already decorated for Fall even though it still feels like Summer here. My Autumn berry swag is atop the mantle with pretty soft battery operated lights woven thru it. In front of the swag sits 3 porcelain pumpkins, two, larger ones on opposite sides of the mantle and a smaller white one in the middle. I’ve placed a large basket with 4 blankets and a few pillows are nestled inside. We had a couple over from Church Sunday evening and even though it was 80 degrees outside, they stated that they loved our “cozy living room” and the wife said she ” never wanted to leave”. THAT is the biggest compliment and just what I want my LR and fireplace to evoke! Love all the mantle decor inspiration photos! So very cozy!!
Oh, I can only imagine! You know you’ve done something right when it feels cozy even with the 80 degree. It sounds perfect, Jo Jo! Enjoy.
Its still so warm here but I am really looking forward to lighting our first fire!

I wish so badly that we had a fireplace in our house. In our last place I filled with different size candles which gave such a romantic vibe. I love the idea of pulling an ottoman or stool close!

This will be the first fall / winter where I have had a fireplace in my home. I moved to a townhome this summer. I am waiting for a craftsman to come next week and turn it into a beauty with shiplap above and shaker trim around the fireplace. In the meantime I found a felt garland of owls in orange and brown to hang from the mantel and a silver cloth pumpkin that mirrors one of my water bird sculptures on the mantel. I am ordering an area rug to go over my hardwood look floors Karastan Enigma Torrent Desert. I can’t wait for it to all come together.
Heading into winter here in Guernsey in the Channel Islands. I love the picture groupings on the white mantel, going to try something similar in my home – thankyou!
Hi Melissa and company, well I was just reading your block like I love to do. I scrolled down to August 28 and folks praying for Texas. We thank you all for that and keep them coming. Well I was one of the folks that got hit. That’s sort of how we’ve been saying it here. Thank God we had flood insurance. Some have not been as lucky. Bottom line tomorrow we get our texture whoohoo! Now it’s time to figure out all the details, mercy. Anyway, I have been reaching back to many of your details. Have learned we don’t need that much stuff and frankly don’t want it. I like having less furniture in the house. Wishing you all good days and pray for peace.
I’m so glad you are OK, Gidget! Thank you for stopping by. What a difficult season for you and so many! I hope you find fresh joy in fixing your home back up just, the way you want it! XOXO
Oh I love this post! Fall is the perfect time to get cozy and warm up our spaces. The picture of Michelle Janeen’s space above gives me all of the heart eyes. Thanks for the inspiration this morning.
Melissa, can you do the free ebook bundle through Barnes and Noble with the preorder?
Hi Sally, if you preordered it doesn’t matter where you bought the book from, as long as you ordered before the book was released. Hopefully that makes sense :).
