Beadboard is a classic design element. I’m so fond of the texture and cottage character it adds! We’ve had it in many of our older homes and there is beadboard wainscoting in our current home, too. I love it so much, we’re incorporating beadboard in our new kitchen! They actually started installing it Friday, so stay tuned here for an update post this week and I’ll show you how we’re using it.

Today’s Sunday Strolls & Scrolls post features 5 charming rooms I love with beadboard walls. Enjoy the inspiration from these lovely homes.

Sunday Strolls + Scrolls is a series inspired by the interiors and exterior spaces I fell in love with while scrolling the internet. I particularly enjoy finding spaces and ideas that reflect a sense of sanctuary! I hope this series will feel as relaxing and enjoyable to you as a leisurely walk down a charming street, a peaceful stroll through a garden or finally getting to peek inside a lovely neighborhood home during a Sunday open house.

    How do you clean beadboard?
I like seeing it, but never entertained installing because it looks hard to clean. What type of paint do you use? Are you using unpainted nor do you purchase panel ing that copies bead board?
Have you seen it painted in color? all I see is white.
    Help!! I need your input.

I’ve never had any trouble cleaning woodwork or paneling of any kind. As long as it’s painted with a quality paint and cleaned regularly it holds up great. I love Advance by Benjamin Moore and I’m sure Sherwin Williams has something similar. We had painted paneling in our last home kitchen, too, and it was easy to take care of. Beadboard originated in England four centuries ago so it’s has stood the test of time in homes.

We used tongue and groove paneling on our walls and ceilings, so it’s individual boards that fit together. You can use one side of the board for the “v-groove” look or turn them around for the beadboard. We used both. You can also buy it in a sheet. You can keep it natural wood like cedar or pine, or you can order it primed and then paint, or you can prime and paint. I’ve seen it in every color! White is definitely a classic look, but it’s lovely in any shade!
