The best summer gatherings aren’t about having everything perfect. They’re about creating a welcoming atmosphere where people feel comfortable, relaxed, and at home.
Over the years, I’ve found that when I have a few favorite entertaining essentials ready to go, hosting becomes so much more enjoyable—not just for our guests, but for me, too.
Today I’m sharing three simple ways I prepare for effortless summer gatherings, along with a few of my favorite entertaining essentials from Wayfair.

Three simple ways I prepare for effortless summer gatherings:
1. I gather my serving pieces and entertaining supplies a few days ahead.
A few days before guests arrive, I like to pull everything I’ll need into one spot. It helps me think through the details without feeling rushed at the last minute. I gather pretty serving trays, favorite platters, napkins, glasses, pitchers, and anything else I’ll be using so it’s all ready to go.
One item I always make sure is ready is our rechargeable outdoor lamps. I charge them ahead of time so we can add a cozy glow wherever people gather, whether it’s on the patio, porch, or around the table.
I also love having a few beautiful serving pieces that are practical enough to use all season long! A pretty presentation can make even simple food feel a little more special.

A few new entertaining finds I’m loving:
- Blue and white melamine plates — these are adorable, I love the floral pattern!
- Blue and white dotted glasses — two size options and colors. The have the cutest scalloped detail on the rim, too.
- Block print patterned napkins –100% cotton!
- Bamboo handled flatware — perfect for elevating an outdoor party (they are dishwasher safe too for easy clean up!)
- Melamine striped platter — I’ve used this for several gatherings already this summer. It’s the perfect size for appetizers, grilled food, desserts, or even corralling serveware into one pretty display.

2. I create serving spots away from the kitchen.
One thing I’ve learned after years of having people over is that, no matter how much space you have, everyone somehow ends up in the kitchen. Instead of fighting it, I plan for it.

I like setting up a simple drink station on a rolling serving cart either on the porch or nearby patio. It gives guests another place to gather while keeping the kitchen from feeling crowded.

One of my favorite entertaining pieces is this glass beverage dispenser with a built-in insert for fruit and a separate ice tube (so you can keep drinks chilled without watering them down!). It’s perfect for fruit-infused water, lemonade, or iced tea and looks so pretty sitting out during a gathering.

Another favorite is this round counter-height table. It creates an extra place for guests to gather, but it also works beautifully as a buffet for appetizers, desserts, drinks, plates, or napkins.

These pieces are perfect for small spaces, too!
Spreading things out improves the traffic flow, makes it easy for guests to help themselves, and encourages conversation to happen throughout the home—not only around the kitchen island.

3. I focus on the mood more than perfection.
People rarely care about what you didn’t get done. They remember how your home made them feel.
Soft lighting (these cordless lamps have adjustable brightness for just the right mood!), pretty serving pieces, fresh drinks, delicious food, and a few thoughtful details create an atmosphere that invites people to linger.
I’ve learned that putting my energy into creating a warm, welcoming mood always matters more than trying to make everything perfect.

By the way, we’ve been loving our folding bench! We moved it to the front porch this week, and it was so easy to fold up and carry over. I love having versatile pieces like this that can be moved wherever we need extra seating…they make effortless summer entertaining that much easier!
