If you want your home to feel cozy, comfortable and collected this fall, but you don’t love clutter, I’m here with a little styling secret.
But first, I define clutter as anything in your home that isn’t currently loved, used regularly, or arranged in a way that makes you happy.
Every home and person still needs real-life things! How many things you keep is up to you, but we all have things that keep our homes running and enjoyable to live in.

In my home, we have linens for guests, everyday products, toys for little ones, and plenty of things that make a home useful, personal and welcoming.
The secret to setting the cozy mood you want without feeling overwhelmed by stuff is being intentional about what you keep and giving those things a place to belong.

In our smaller home, we don’t have a lot of spare storage space, so attractive freestanding storage has made such a difference. We found this amazing basket trunk at Wayfair for the toys our grandkids play with when they’re here. They don’t need a ton of things to play with here, but I love that their favorite toys have a dedicated place in our home—it helps our little ones feel at home here, too!

When playtime is over, everything can be tucked back into the basket rather than becoming visual clutter around the room or taking up our limited closet space. And the basket is lovely, too, so I actually enjoy seeing it and using it!
It’s such a versatile piece, and I love that it can work in so many ways throughout the seasons. Use it for extra blankets and linens, throw pillows, board games, tall pitchers—or simply the everyday things you want close at hand. You could even tuck it beside a chair as an end table, place it behind the sofa, or let it fill an empty corner with both purpose and charm.

We also love having this cabinet to organize linens and products for our laundry closet and guest bathrooms. It’s charming enough to add character to our home, but even better, it gives important things a dedicated place to belong.
We’re intentional about what goes here, which makes life easier, too. I know where to find everything and don’t have to dig around in the depths of a few cabinets to find our soap refills, a fresh pillowcase or quilt for guests.
That’s one of my favorite secrets to a cozy, collected—but not cluttered—home.
Once you define what clutter actually is and isn’t, you can stop feeling overwhelmed by excess stuff and instead focus on making room for what you actually need and love.
It’s often about what makes you feel at peace in your own home.

Knowing what is helpful in your daily life and what inspires you is the first step. Then, giving those things a place to belong makes your home feel better—and makes it much easier to recognize what feels like clutter so you can let it go.
When everything has a purpose and a place, even tidying becomes a simpler rhythm in your daily life—so your home can feel cozy, collected and peaceful enough to truly enjoy.
