Hello friends! I took a few days off to enjoy Thanksgiving with my family. It was so nice to slow down a bit, relax, and eat delicious food, of course. And just for the record, my 24 pound turkey turned out amazing if I do say so myself :). It was perfectly browned, juicy and delicious and it only took a few hours to cook to the perfect temp. Success!
But even though I enjoyed the break, I’ve missed being here and chatting with you! I’m SO excited December is HERE! Yay! Now that I’m back I’m ready to charge full steam ahead into Christmas decorating and all those fun December-y posts (PS. I didn’t finish the last three scheduled days of my Loving Fall series in November as I intended, but this weekend family came first so maybe we’ll just return to that series next year! You all know I love fall enough for all the days so I think we’ll just move on now to Christmas heheheh!).
Have I mentioned that you are all invited over for a virtual Christmas tour next Monday (SAY WHAT? I guess I need to get busy!). I’m looking forward to cranking up Charlie Brown and decking the halls! :)
But first…as all the Christmas sales are beginning, I wanted to share a few thoughts and tips about shopping for home accessories. When you have limited space for storage and are on a budget for decor, you obviously can’t buy everything you see or love. You have to make smart choices. But it can be overwhelming to know what is worth buying, because there are so many options and fun seasonal decor to choose from all the time!
Here are two questions I ask myself to help me determine what to buy or what to pass on when it comes to home decor:
1. Is this item season-less?
I absolutely always prefer to have decor that is season-less. I don’t have room (or patience) to pack up and store too much stuff, so if I can jazz it up to feel festive this time of year and then de-festive it (is de-festiving a thing?) for the summer months too, I’m more tempted to add that new accessory to my home.

Okay so I got a handmade white glass pumpkin with golden stem. I did the same thing- it is somewhat seasonless- well it will cover two seasons plus and it could go in at least two places during that time. Funny, I got one of them and got another for a NYs Eve Wedding present- the bride is classy and loves white and gold. It first drew me in for the latter reason but my hubby loves all things glass so one came home with me too. And that it was half off did not hurt either. Where I am going to store this large white object is beside the point- it is happy being part of the Holiday Season right now!!!

It would have to be the Lyrics for Life wall plaque – You Never Let Go. My husband and I have been married for 35 years. 25 of those years we have faced a health crisis that my husband has. God has been with us throughout our whole marriage and especially during his illness. We have strayed and Jesus has brought us back and He Has Never Let Us Go. It’s my favorite time of the year… The twinkling lights, cookies baking in the oven, putting out all my treasured decorations and spending time with the people I love! Right now we are finishing last minute preparations and rehearsals for our Christmas Cantata at church.

My daughter and her Navy husband just bought their first home and I’d love to help them furnish it !! Winning this would help them get the ” Bones ” they need to start!! Mirrors, candlesticks, dishes would all be something they could use year round!!
I want some pictures to spruce up my home and I saw so many different pieces of wall art that I love at Dayspring. It would be wonderful if I could put up new pictures after the Christmas season!

I would buy the book, THE GREATEST GIFT to give to family and friends. I recieved mine last week and love it. We just started the daily readings today being it’s Dec. 1. I printed out the ornaments to put on my tree. I saw you can buy nice paper ones, so I would purchase some sets of them to go with the books I would give away. I am excited about reading this book during the Christmas season. Thank you!!

My favorite easy-to-store Christmas decorations are cards from past years. Each year since I was married, I save one of our Christmas cards and frame it. Then it goes on our mantel the following year- we’re up to four and I love them all.

I have so many totes filled with Christmas and have decided this year to just use a few with some seasonal greens and pine cones. Simple and yet so Christmas like. I like that I will not have to pack so much away after. Now I just need to donate or give away the rest of it. For the tree I have my Grandmother’s very old ornaments and those I will keep…the rest? time to simplify…and out it goes…what a relief! Love your decorating and I do love Dayspring. I love the sunburst mirror and I never would have thought of taking it off the wall and decorating it in a holiday display on my dining room buffet, but now ideas are dancing around in my head! I also love the candlesticks and the idea of changing up just the candles for the different holidays. I always drag out my gold fancy candlesticks with their special holiday candles but the gold seems too busy all year long. Love all of your ideas and they are better on my limited budget! Thank you!

I love the inspiration…I was thinking of purchasing some pinecone candles with battery lights in them; they seemed a little expensive; however, they are white and would work in any room of the house throughout the year. I can now see the value in them :)
I would start with the give thanks wood caddy – I’m a suck for the wood caddy! I love the grateful life cake pedestal, the love came down teapot, and probably more of the caddy – because I can think of MANY uses for it!

You are so right about buying things with dual purpose. Here is something I’ve learned along the way….buy a two of anything you can. I often have purchased a single lamp, or a shade, or a candlestick or a vase…and then find that if I just had one that matched, I could use that item in a whole different way, or a new location in my home. So, that is a question I ask myself…can I see my self using two, and if the answer is yes, I get a pair.
