Fall Date NightsMary Jane McCartyCountry Living

I‘m writing this on Thursday night and my hubby and I have a date. No, we aren’t going out to a fancy dinner. And no, we aren’t going out dancing or to a movie. We are snuggling up in our bed with a big bowl of popcorn and watching The Office. And we cannot wait! We try really hard to maintain a weekly date. Sometimes it is having coffee in a quaint coffee shop, sometimes it is going out to lunch, but usually it is something at home that we both look forward to.

That is the best thing about Fall, cozy nights curled up with a good book or movie! And of course, my hubby!

Do you all go on date nights regularly?

We love watching “The Office” together, too! Dave and I had a long-standing lunch date every Friday that we enjoyed for years. His company just moved across town, so we aren’t able to pull it off every week anymore. I miss that.

This is so cute! I am sitting here, working on schoolwork, waiting for the BF to get home so that we can watch The Office together. <3

We are needing to do more date nights lately or something. Our schedules are so opposite that we barely spend quality time together. We see each other and hang out together, but it’s just not the same if the baby is awake!

My husband and I just had a date night tonight! We went out to a nice dinner. This is a RARE occasion however, we don’t do it regularly but I am going to try thinking of some things to do right here at home. Thanks for the inspiration. He doesn’t watch ANY TV, so I am going to have to be creative!!!!!!! Pinky

Your date nights sound wonderful! We are so busy with this move we are lucky to even kiss goodnight! We do take every Sunday, to have a big breakfast together and read the Sunday paper…It takes us a couple of hours and we talk, laugh, share.

We have date night every Saturday night. It usually consists of Mexican Food, Starbucks and Barnes and Noble. I know, we’re creatures of habit. But, we love it. My husband doesn’t watch TV much either, so that’s not much of an option.

Dating or just sitting together infront of the fireplace in 2 man hand is wonderful. Talk small cute memories keep us both alive. Once a week, we go out for a jog & every Saturday, we take our early morning walk. I think it’s important for all husbands and wives to have time together to keep the relationship alive.

    Have a nice week-end.

Hello Melissa..I think this is wonderful, I think my hubby would think I had gone a bit crazy if I suggested a date night…once a week or once a month. We did go out for a meal the other month, only because he was going away. I hardly see my hubby so at the mo it is hard to do, you think this would make us want to do it more…sorry his job is making us drift apart ..I am so used to my own life now..and so is he….a struggle.

We never miss a date night. When we got married, I had 3 little ones within a year we added Emma. Date nights weren’t an option! Now, as empty-nesters we still have date nights. There isn’t anything we’ve done for our marriage that’s been more important.
    Kudos Melissa!

Thanks for sharing this, Melissa. This is one of the upsides of so many of your babies being away from the nest at the moment. I’m glad I’m not the only one who considers a snuggle up at home with my husband to be as important as a romantic restaurant date in town. When the kids are sound asleep (it takes longer these days!) we add wine, candles, Greek mezedhes and a soppy DVD to the mix. My husband and kids are my home, wherever I am.

I love little coffee dates, walks down paths holding hands while the kids ride their bikes, and there is nothing I love more than staying up after the kids are asleep to snuggle, watch a favorite show, and hog all the popcorn.

    Happy Friday Melissa!

That sounds like our date nights. We have three little ones so going out is tricky and also expensive (babysitters make good money!!). We really enjoy sitting on the porch with some wine and a snack, cuddling up to watch a show or movie, or playing a game.

When we do get to go out it’s a big deal and we enjoy it so much because it’s such a rarity.

Now that our baby dependably sleeps from 7pm until 10.30pm every night (she wakes up at the latter time for her goodnight feed) I have been wantonly and irresponsibly sneaking out with my husband on real, live dates. It’s very exciting. On other nights, we curl up in front of the fire with our dinner and watch Mad Men – a way of spending the evening to which I have no objections at all!

we have the misfortune of only having my kids every other week (joint custody w/ex) so that is kind of fortunate in the regard that we do get to spend some quality time with each other when they’re at their dad’s.

Our dates are simple and sweet. We make a cocktail, go out to the lanai and he grills, and i keep him company watching the wildlife in the back yard. Then we snuggle on the couch with TV or a movie. We’re not hard to please. :)

Jim and I consider Friday nights our date night. They are pretty much standard and sacred …we don’t answer the door on phone on Friday nights. We usually watch a movie, just hang out and recoup from the busy week. And we eat popcorn. If we do go out it will be on Saturday…never Friday..Friday is for cuddling and shutting out the world. We love it!

Date nights are wonderful! All couples MUST make it a routine to maintain those sparks. My fav datenights are getting a little hiking or tennis action and snuggling up laughing at each other so loud it drowns out the tv in the background :-)

That room with brown walls is lovely. I would ordinarily be afraid to try such a dark color on a wall, but when I see color usage (and success) like this I’m inspired to be a bit more daring when it comes to my walls.

Still mulling it over. Of course, if it doesn’t work, I can always paint over it, right?

    Enjoy your weekend!

My hubby and I are just starting to get intentional about doing a weekly date night. We usually do spend a lot of time together but we have not ‘set aside’ a date NIGHT per se until recently. I’ve also been inspired to challenge myself to come up with a years worth of novel dating ideas that I post every Friday on my lil old blog. Come visit!

Ooooh! That sounds very cozy! Where will the children be? If my hubby and I took some popcorn and snuggled up nice and comfy and cozy and cuddley…we’d have one big blond furry Wheaten Terrier right in between us!
I did love how the FULL MOON lit our bedroom up last week. Going to sleep with the light of a full moon…romantic…but again…Doogan…the Wheaten…right there with us!

Our current favorite “date” is to watch the office on the laptop (several days late) after the little ones are in bed! It’s free and easy! But also picnics – dress warm! – walks and just going out for coffee instead of dinner are things we like to do.

Date nights, love them! This time of year I have two favorite dates… like you just had, snuggling under our flannel quilt on the leather love seat watching football, heads tilted in toward one another. The other favorite date is at lunchtime on a blanket on the grass at a park with a picnic and him… hubby dearest (Superman). Candles are a bonus.

Was that not the best Office yet?!! My husband and I watch it together every week, but he was out of town, so we called each other about 5 times during the show to laugh together!

Years ago I read that the greatest gift parents can give their children is to show them what a loving relationship between a couple looks like. Very important.

I envy all you date nighters… I’m finding its just a matter of making time and making an effort, neither of which we’ve been doing. BUT – this post made me feel good, because it made me realize that we do, in a way, have ‘dates’ when we sit and watch tv together, always while eating popcorn…. ah, but wait – the kids are always watching too… I guess that means *no date*…
