Winter Home Tip:
Utilize Transition Pieces

by Melissa @ The Inspired Room on January 8, 2010

Transitioning our home decor after Christmas but before spring is a delicate balance. I like nuances and subtle transitions in decorating. That is how the seasons really are, at least where I am from. It isn’t winter one day and summer the next, right? You have my permission to add little pieces of sunshine right now if you want to.

I love my collection of glass bottles. The pretty shades of glass make me think about the beach. But when I add in a few of my mercury glass balls, I also think about the sparkle and coolness of winter. Put them together, and they are a pretty transitional collection between the seasons.

And when you add the glass to the textures we talked about in this post, you get a nice balance of rough and shiny textures to keep your home interesting and flowing smoothly between the seasons.

More Winter Home Tips to come!

Now, go ahead and link up for our Friday Winter Home Linky! For the next few weeks we’ll be linking up ideas to keep us inspired about the winter season! Rules are: you need to link directly to a specific post. If you only link to your home page, I have to delete you. Why you ask? Because if someone wants to look at all the winter posts in the future, by that time on your home page you might be talking about barbecuing taco meat in the summer or something random and it would be a big disappointment to everyone who clicked.

Last rule is: it is really nice if you link back to The Inspired Room. That is common bloggy courtesy, not just one of my rules!

I’m with ya on transitioning slowly. Mostly because it takes me four million years to do anything. By the time I figure out what I want to do, it’s about time for the *next* season :)

This year I kept some of my holiday stuff up and took out the more ‘bang’ colors and went for subtly…winter’s specialty.

Thanks for hosting!

I love your bottle collection and it does look very “wintery”. I have a few bottles that I could display that way for winter. Thanks for the inspiration! I linked up today as well! :)

Great idea to both transistion your seasons, adding a little touch here and there as time permits but also recycling decorations from other holidays, am doing something similar on my mantle this week and having the best fun.
