Inspired Rooms: Add some fun & whimsy

Coastal Living

I love to see a little fun and whimsy in a room.

The artwork of the dog and even the big over-sized buttons on the whimsical slipcovers bring loads of personality to this kitchen! To have a home inspired by YOU, don’t stop at just thinking about THINGS you love. Think on different levels, think about your personality and how that can translate to your home and style. Think about the people and pets you love and the places you have been.

How could you incorporate those happy parts of your life and the nuances of your personality?

What small details could you add to your home to make people smile?

What has inspired YOU this week?

Hi Liz. Someone asked WHEN I post and I had no schedule. I’m kind of a free spirited poster :-) but for those who like to be FIRST, I told her I would try to do it at 7PM PST on Thursday nights. Last week was my first attempt and I failed and then McLinky failed. :-)

This week I was only a little late. Next week, I’ll try to be ON IT.

Love this post, Melissa. I could never have a super serious, oh so beautiful home like we see in design books and mags. As much as I admire them and the talent behind them, my rooms want to have fun!

Hi Melissa, I am proud to present to you my first PB knock off! And I think I even added a little whimsey in that too. Life is already way too serious, if we don’t have humor what else will get us through :-)

I’ve loved that photo from Coastal Living ever since the first time that I saw it! The green cabinets, the paneled walls, the stained wood front door, transoms, and stair rails…gorgeous!

We added pink knobs onto the armoire that we just created for our daughter in her bedroom. Definitely adds just the right amount of fun and whimsy that I wanted for the piece! And the best part is that she loves that they’re pink! It makes her smile, and she makes ME smile! :)

I love the cabinet color and the walls are beautiful. That ceiling is amazing, but my house wouldn’t be able to pull that one off. Thanks for the beautiful picture.

Instead of a bowl full of fruit I have a bowl full of cricket balls and baseballs. I love the reds and whites and it adds whimsy to my desk. The kids love it too. Plus fruit goes way too fast in a house full of six people.

Love the pop of color inside the cabinets and love the slipcovers with the giant buttons. The dog? Not so much. I’ve been trying to imagine what I’d prefer there because I think it might help me to know myself better…since it is painted wood and that was the look I was after when the addition was put on. (Wouldn’t you know that everyone to a “t” says, “Oh how could you possibly paint it?”) Oh what a great ceiling shown there, too. Let’s see, I’m still having trouble with what I’d really want there. Perhaps some architectural salvage or a farmland scene. Yes, I want a more traditional painting there or a large shelf that I could decorate. Okay, what does that say about me, beyond hopeless? Ha! Have a great weekend, my dear!

    Hello Melissa,
I have not figured out what to do to join in the fun, but I just added your button to my blog so that I may stop by more often! I love houses that are real, yet elegant and fresh. I love this picture (and the painting of the dog!)
    Have a refreshing weekend.

Hehee…I like that doggie pic! And I really like the splash of light colors in this space against the white canvas. It’s fun but not overwhelming.

Here’s another vote for fun and whimsy in home decor! I just love it!

I know this is an old post, but I found it while looking for photos of whimsical rooms. I love the entire look from the white walls and cabinets to the high ceilings and the farmhouse table and chairs. I also love the over-sized artwork which reminds me to make larger pieces of my own art! Your blog is always inspiring, Melissa! :)
