Now that it’s December, I’m feeling like it’s finally time to start the Christmas tunes! I’m sitting around in my stretchy pants after Thanksgiving, making sure that my house and I will be all cozy and ready for Christmas.
Today I’m sharing 4 tips to create a cozy winter mood in your home!
1. Plan a cozy baking day in the kitchen.
It’s been feeling extra cold to me here this past week! There was actually a rumor of a few snow flurries this weekend, so I immediately started running the house trying to get everything done so I’d be ready to settle in for a week of coziness.
I pictured myself baking holiday treats in the kitchen with snow falling outside the window!
Of course, whenever you’re actually prepared to enjoy some snow, it doesn’t happen.
But it’s fine. Even if it doesn’t snow, I’m all about the snowman marshmallows and hot chocolate this time of year, anyway.
Last year we hung these paper snowflakes in the kitchen early in the month so it felt like a magical snowstorm, even before we got the real deal.
Jack’s face when I tell him it’s too cold to go on a walk and want to stay inside and shop instead, LOL!
2. Gather your coziest snowstorm essentials.
We didn’t lose power during our last snow storm, but I still love the mood of my home when it is filled with the warmth of candles in lanterns and other ambient lighting! What would you want your living room to feel like on a snowy day?
3. Prepare for creature comforts.
Jack probably doesn’t care as much about the mood lighting when it’s cold out as he does about the cozy factor. As long as he’s comfortable, that’s what matters. My husband and I usually have opposite body temperatures. I am always cold, he’s usually too warm.
4. Design a favorite cozy destination.
I like to design snug and cozy destinations filled with layers of warmth and coziness. This will be our first winter with our game table, but I know we are going to spend a lot of time sitting right here near the fire!
We are already stockpiling some winter puzzles and games to play. And of course, we’re ready with candlelight to enjoy the coziest dinners ever right here!

I love your bamboo shelf unit. Where is it from?
I’m a bit of a scrooge. I am always so disheartened about all the Christmas “stuff” and decor that will eventually end up in a landfill that 3 years ago I got rid of just about everything except a few special keepsakes. I donated my tree and all the ornaments and other decor and just have a simple evergreen garland on the fireplace and a wreath on the door. And I have to say I’m much happier around the holidays with less clutter and fewer things to both take out and put away, AKA MORE FREE TIME! I know this isn’t a common feeling and I understand the joy people get from decorating, but for me, it was always more of a burden than a pleasure. Baking and sharing the treats with others, however, is right up my alley!
Have you posted how to make the snowmen marshmallows somewhere? I’m really interested. Last night I watched a video on YouTube on how to make hot chocolate the French way. It was a bit involved but it sure looked really yummy. I will include the link in case anyone is interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTfokMC4Ho4
We got a big snowstorm here over Thanksgiving weekend. I do love snuggling up in my warm cozy house while the storms blow all around. And I love a baking day on a cold snowy day!
I purchased the sconces you recently featured from World Market and…I luv them!! franki
I love to cozy up
On a snowy winter day too! That’s when I’ll be puttering in slippers and have the fireplace going and either baking bread or cookies or have a stew or soup simmering in the stove! Love being in my home during winter!
Everything is beautiful! Can you tell me the source for the hanging snowflakes? Thank you!
