How to Be Patient with Home Projects

It’s hard to be patient with the pace of home projects, let alone be realistic with our own expectations. The internet plays games with our minds. Everything moves so fast! Like the pace of highlight reels for home makeovers, everyone else’s projects seem to get completed in the time it takes me to even decide what my options are for breakfast 😅. Anyone else?

Someone messaged me the other day and said “everyone seems to be in a hurry.” We all want things done and now. It can be exhausting to scroll the feed, but even more exhausting if we feel like we have to keep up a pace that isn’t meant for us or our season of life. Slow and steady, rhythm and routine, focus on one season at a time and be patient for the rest. Give yourself grace to go at your own pace!

How to Be Patient with Home Projects

It doesn’t have to be all or nothing. I do all kinds of projects in my home! Quick one-day makeovers keep me inspired and feeling like things are moving along more quickly. But other spaces I’ve been working on for six years, one baby step at a time. It’s so rewarding to look at those long-term projects and remember how far I’ve come.

We may feel like we want all the things done immediately but there’s a lot of satisfaction in doing projects over time. It’s wonderful to slow down and just enjoy what you’ve already accomplished and to appreciate the evolution of your home in every season.

Home Project Action Steps:

  • Make a list of home projects you want to do. Remind yourself they don’t all have to be done immediately! Which ones are the most doable in this season? Which ones could wait until a better time? Could you do some parts now and some later?
  • Make a list of projects you’ve completed or are still working on. Celebrate how far you’ve come!
