After Christmas, my mantel felt a bit sad. So, I did what always works to lift my spirits and make my home feel better at the same time. I puttered! Gathering a few happier things from around the house was my home therapy for the week.

The result? Goodbye winter slump, hello spring! I’ll share what’s on the mantel below along (and our Spring Shop and some pretty spring mood boards!).

Here’s what I put on my spring mantel:

My cordless lamps (I shared more about them here)

A white bunny

Antique books

Green and white striped scalloped pot (with an orchid)

Shell

Rattan candleholder (similar here, here, or here) with a moss ball on it (turned out like a DIY topiary, ha!)

I’m also excited to share that our annual Spring Shop is here!

Enjoy the cute spring home decor mood boards below, and you’ll find more here in our Spring Shop!

We’ll keep the Spring Shop updated throughout the season, so if you ever need a little spring accessory or gift, bookmark the shop or this post and you’ll be able to find it later, too. You can also find more of our curated finds in my Amazon Storefront and Cottage by the Sea Home Shop!

I like everything, and follow your updates, but the painting is so dark –

It is an original 18th century impressionist oil painting by an artist who was in the same circles as Monet! It’s amazing but yes, it’s a moodier painting for sure!

One principle I teach people is to always step back when you are styling a vignette so you see how it all works with the room as a whole.

A risk of sharing a close up photo or styling each vignette on its own without context you will miss what is more important, how it looks in the room.

Sometimes close up vignette photos look good ONLY because you are close up so all of the elements go together, but it could be too cluttered, overwhelming or feel out of place in the room.

So that’s why I don’t really decorate vignettes for photos — if the mood and accessories all feel balanced and pleasing together in the actual room then I’m happy in my house.

Also when styling surfaces and with pieces that are not in a permanent place, like this spring mantel, I often just use what I have. Our painting stays there all the time (at least for now!) so even if I don’t always have all of the “perfect” pieces for the season, we can still love it all in our home (and I like to have fun seasonal decor for our grandbabies to enjoy now, too).

How do you use/style the Wayfair Aemadi basket?

I love baskets for texture in the room (or sitting on the lower shelf of a console). I most often use baskets like that for stashing things that could look messy like a place to toss shoes or slippers, toys, or to hold an extra pillow or throw blankets or even to set a potted plant in! I also use them to hide cords (I just stuff them in!).
