When I showed you my home office progress a few weeks ago, I totally forgot to tell you about my Polka Dot lampshade! I’ve had this lamp forever, but at some point it got a new lampshade. I kept it plain white for years, but one day last winter I decided to give it a little personality with some gold polka dot stickers. Because every now and then I decide to be all trendy. But instead of putting them on the wall, I thought I would embellish my lampshade.
I know you want to know exactly how this was done, so today I’m here with the full tutorial.
How to Embellish a Lampshade
1. Remove gold vinyl stickers from adhesive backing.
2. Stick on lampshade. You can eyeball the distance between polka dots or use a ruler if you want to be exact.
3. There is no step three. That’s all.
I know. I’m ridiculous when it comes to DIY. My talents are overwhelming, I don’t know how you can keep up with the complexity of my DIY instructions!
You can find these vinyl stickers everywhere, I think I even some saw some at Target recently. I got them from a friend who no longer has a shop, but there is a similar pack that I found online here!
Simple, affordable and totally removable if you change your mind later!
I love that kind of project.
Super cute! I’ve been looking for an excuse to use gold polka dots, and this is giving me ideas…
This is beautiful! I love it. I love gold and this is perfect to bring gold in without going over the top.
Now that is my kind of DIY!!! I’ve never been so excited about the possibilities contained within a pack of gold circle stickers! Maybe cute on flower pots too. I love what it did for your lampshade!
Love this! Thanks for the chuckle! :)
Refreshingly simple and oh so cute!
Very cute! I also love the credenza with drawers! Where did you find it?
It’s from IKEA! I just got it (actually there are two of them side by side). The link is in the office progress post. :-)
Your talents are amazing! I could handle that project, too! Love your sense of humor and your writing, in addition to your DIY talents!
Thank you, Chloe (one of my favorite names!) … :-D
Wait . . . could you repeat step 1 . . . :) PS: I’ve always loved that lamp!
Hahah. Take notes, Barbara. It’s hard to remember. :-)
Love your blog and that lampshade is so cute. I will be back often!
Thank you, Marilou!
Love the lampshade. Has there been any peeling back of the dots? Also, can you share where you got the white tables?
Love it! So simple and looks great! I’m going to have to try it in a couple of boring white shades I have.
Very easy DYI. Love the simplicity. I used hot air balloon stickers and buttons on my guest room lamp shade.
Such a fun idea! Love the lampshade!
Love your approach to life!!! You are so funny and I adore following you.
Love this! So simple, and such a great idea. I saw it and immediately thought, “Duh! Why didn’t I think of that?!”
now that is some great bling! it really makes the shade pop doesn’t it?
This is such a good idea – one of those “Hey, why didn’t I think of that!?” DIY projects. Especially love that you chose gold for the vinyl stickers. That color is so in right now. Where did you get the stickers from? Thanks!
