A Lutyens bench is a classic staple of English garden design, known for its charming arched back, scrolled armrests, and timeless slatted silhouette. Named after British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens in the early 1900s, this bench style has truly stood the test of time.

I’ve always admired them in my favorite English gardens, so I was delighted to find this darling compact version that was not only within our budget, but foldable too—making it easy to tuck away for winter.

See how compact it folds up? A small space dream!

You can watch our video of how easily it folds up right here.

Today I’m sharing a round-up of the Lutyens benches in various finishes and price points that I found at Wayfair.

I’ve found so many great outdoor pieces at Wayfair over the years (including my hanging planters!).

This bench is the ideal size for our small space, offering a cozy spot to sit while still being lightweight enough to move around as needed for gardening or gathering around the firepit.

While I’ve always loved the coastal charm of Adirondack chairs around a firepit, it became clear they took up too much room for our layout. Small spaces often call for a little more intention, but I’m often grateful for the creative challenge of making a space feel uniquely our own.

The bench comes in several finishes, but I think the white makes such a bright and cheerful focal point in our garden area. While it provides a charming place to sit around the firepit, it would be equally lovely on a front porch, or even styled indoors as an unexpected accent seat.

Your garden is looking lovely – could we please see a bit more of it?

Hi, love the benches. Can you refer to the white lattice privacy
screens seen behind the Lutyens bench. I am looking for that concept. Thanks

Sure! We needed a quick way to keep the deer out (who were determined to get in) while we were planting our backyard, while still letting light through. My parents came up with this idea to put up temporary screening with lattice panels. It works! Someday I’d like to have custom panels/fencing in a similar style but their clever solution gave us time to get settled in, save money and decide what would work when we’re ready. It’s held up great!
