Hi friends, Courtney here (Melissa’s daughter!)! I’m so excited to welcome you to our new home today. After years of renting, my husband and I (along with our son) have just moved into a new-to-us house with my parents-in-law!
A few years ago my parents-in-law brought up the idea of us living together and it immediately felt right to us. We continued renting our townhouse and took our time house hunting until we found just the right house for sharing.
Enter….The Lake House.

This is just the type of home we were looking for and even better than we hoped. There’s a basement apartment with a separate entrance my parents-in-law are living in, and my husband and son and I are living in the main house.
Such a special gift to have 3 generations under one roof!

This view was such an unexpected blessing. My husband and I used to drive around imagining how fun it would be to live near a lake, but we never imagined we’d end up with such a beautiful view. Every rental I’ve lived in has looked right into parking lots or big buildings…so the sight of a lake, mountains, beautiful trees and wide open sky out our windows is such a peaceful delight. We are very grateful.

We are so excited to be beginning this new chapter of home ownership. We plan to be in this home for a very long time–a family home we can really settle into and slowly make our own for years to come!

We don’t expect to be doing major renovations (thankfully we like so much of the home to begin with) but we definitely have long term visions and lots of little projects ahead. And of course, just making a home cozy and personalized is one of my very favorite things to do. The thought of being able to do that in a home we own and expect to STAY in is thrilling!

This is a first look at our lake home…just a peek! There is so much more to share, and I can’t wait to take you along as we make this house feel like us.
I’ll be sharing so much more behind the scenes as we discover our “lake house style” inside HomeBody Gathering Place!
It would be so fun to have you join us in the HomeBody community. You’ll get access to cozy decorating guides (the Room Recipe decorating method is so helpful whether you’re just starting out in a home like me and have a lot of decisions to make, or you’re ready to settle in and enjoy your home or make progress in pulling your style together). There are also other signature HomeBody Methods, plus a whole community of kindred spirits who are all creating sanctuaries of their own.
I’ve already started sharing some extra peeks of our home in HGP (plus some design mockups and even a few design dilemmas!). I will be so appreciating all the input from fellow HomeBodies as we begin the journey of turning this house into our home!

Such a sweet home! If your in-laws are open to it will you be sharing their small space? This is something I think I would like to do in the future and I’m curious about small space living. I love what your parents have done at their home.
Thank you! I likely won’t be sharing much of their space here as they’re not really interior design/sharing their home on the internet’ types :), but I do plan to share small space tips! I’m sure I’ll pass along ideas that have worked well for us with multi-generational living too!
We, too, live in our “hand built,” log cabin (only took us 40 years…don’t be discouraged, we started with clearing the land!) You won’t be sorry…the views alone are “faieytale stuff!” franki
Your new house is so beautiful and I love it that you will be living with your in-laws.
Thank you so much, Carol! We’ve all been loving it!
Oh I love that. Totally agree — this view makes it feel so magical. We love it so much here already and I can’t imagine how much more I’ll love this home when we’ve really settled in!
That is such a beautiful lake view! is it in Oregon? or Washington State?
I’m from Oregon :-)
It’s in Washington! :)
This is gorgeous and looks like it could be in . . . Idaho! Or Washington or Oregon. Hope you tell us the state and the name of the lake.
Thank you! It’s in Washington state :)
Oh, I wish you had a U Tube channel. I don’t do Instagram. I would love to see you make this house a home. This is such a practical solution for multi generational families. I am 74, so as I get older, I am sure at some point will need to have family close. Fortunately right now I am fine. But its also the cost sharing is necessary in these times. Also when it comes time for you to help with the parents in laws… being right there with them will be a win, win for both of you.
I’ll definitely share bits of the home here on the blog too! :) (and maybe some YouTube videos someday as well!) And yes absolutely, it really has been such a blessing for all of us already.
Beautiful home and location, Courtney! My home has a front door with leaded glass that looks very much like yours and I love it. I don’t have sidelights with mine. The leaded glass inspired me to get an old (1800’s)piece of stained glass that a relative brought back from Europe in the 1930’s properly cleaned and a pocket frame with a light box added to show it’s full beauty. It’s the focal point above my fireplace in my living room. Congratulations on your new home and I can’t wait to see your turn it into a sanctuary for you and your family.
Oh my goodness I love that idea of adding stained glass elsewhere too! That piece sounds beautiful. Thank you so much–we’re having so much fun slowly settling in!
Such a beautiful home! Congratulations Courtney to you and your family! You will make it beautiful as you always do.
Aw thank you Ashley :) Having so much fun settling in!
Great news for your little family. Thanks for sharing! (Love following along on IG). What a view!!
Aw thank you Peggy! The view is such an unexpected blessing!
Congratulations on your lovely new home! I’m sure you will make so many wonderful memories there. Have fun making it your own!
Looking for a home on the water ourselves. What Lake in WA ? Gorgeous views!
