Jute and Cotton Rug in My Living Room: FAQ and Details

If you want to pull a room together and make it cozy in time for Christmas, this jute and cotton rug would do the trick! It comes in several colors, too and it’s on an awesome sale this week. I thought I would share more about it and our experience with it, in case you’re on the hunt for a cozy neutral rug.

See the rug details here.

Earlier this summer I was looking for a neutral textural rug (and specifically enough of a flat weave that I could layer another rug over if I wanted!). This one turned out to be the perfect rug for us! I love the beachy look of sisal and seagrass, but I like this one even better because it’s jute blended with cotton so it’s soft! It will be so cozy for little ones, too. Our first grand babe (a boy!) will be joining our family sometime in February! :)

I’ve had quite a few questions on this rug recently, so here are a few FAQ on it.

A few FAQ:

Q: Is it soft (soft enough for toddlers to crawl around on?):

A: Yes, absolutely! It’s super soft, not scratchy at all.

Q: Do you use a rug pad with it?

A: Yes I do! I got THIS rug pad with it. It makes it even softer and helps keep it in place.

Q: Does it pull up with dog nails?

A: No, it has been so pet friendly! We’ve had this rug since this summer with both of our dogs are on it every day and we haven’t noticed pulls at all. You can pull the cotton threads back through the back side, though, so it would be easy to fix if any did get pulled. The jute is likely to have bits that stick out here and there but that’s normal for natural fibers.

Q: Is it a good neutral color?

A: Yes, it’s the perfect blend of ivory and tan, it goes with anything! You can see a detail photo below. It comes in several other colors as well (see all colors here).

Q: Does it shed or have any odor?

A: It hasn’t shed at all!And it doesn’t have a scent, unlike some natural fiber rugs.

Details on the rug: This handmade farmhouse area rug has a simple woven design with just the right amount of fading for a breezy, lived-in feel. It’s flatwoven in India from a blend of jute and cotton with a crisp beige hue that works well with coastal-inspired aesthetics. Its medium-thick, 0.25” pile height holds up to high foot traffic while providing padding that’s sure to welcome your guests to kick off their shoes. This area rug also features a relaxed and textured touch. We recommend putting a rug pad underneath to hold it safely in place.

How would this rug stand up to an occasional accident from our 15 yr old little dog? It could be pee or poop. Sorry to be blunt about that! I’ve always stayed away from jute because of the sort of open weave. Thoughts? I am paralyzed by the decision. I currently have a 9×12 being remnant that is stained and ancient.

Oh that’s a tough one to answer for someone else ha, not sure I want to be responsible but if it helps one of our dogs barfed on ours and it was not hard to clean. But there are rugs like Ruggable that can go in a washing machine. One idea is to layer a washable one on top!
