Double Duty Home Offices + Multifunctional Rooms
Living Room Office – House and Home

New year, new projects! While relaxing on the beach in Hawaii might be my new favorite way to start a new year, I was pretty excited to get home and dive into making progress on our house. Since my daughter Courtney is moving in to our lower level next month, we have been in the beginning stages of transforming our lower level to be a super cozy apartment for her. (Catch up here if you missed the post about her move!).

We’ll be sharing more specifics of the design plan soon, but our first step is to establish space for our home office. It’s currently downstairs where Courtney’s sitting room / bedroom will be (see photos of our current office here). With our business expanding so much over the years between projects we do for The Inspired Room and Dwell Well Collective, we do need to create room for our office space, more storage and work surface areas.

We are doing some rearranging, selling some furniture we no longer need, and repurposing underutilized areas or multi-purpose areas the house.

Today I thought I’d share some of inspiration for multifunctional spaces!

Do you have a dedicated home office or a double-duty space that you use to work?

I can’t wait to see how you create Courtney’s living space in your lower level!

When we retired 4 years ago we downsized and built a new home that we love! We decided we really wanted a small room dedicated as a library with built in book cases and two leather recliners and a wall hung tv. This was not going to be an office space. We decided we could have a desk workspace in our living room instead
By purchasing a nice highboy type secretary compjete with drawer files, drawers and a fold down top that was wired for a lap top computer
And everything could be tucked away when not in use and it then looks like a nice dresser! No need to have a chair sitting in front of it either, as the dining room is adjacent and we have a dining room chair that we just pull over to use when working there! Easy leash and no need for a separate room
For an office. Works for us like a dream!

Another combo: Office and craft room. Office side has a danish modern secretary, separate low filing case with printer and wall shelves. Craft side has a closet for storing supplies and an adjustable height table for sewing or glueing or whatever.
