Now that the new year has arrived, I’m on a roll making design decisions so we can make our home our own! I’ve always loved the look of lanterns (remember the beautiful copper and iron lantern we put in our dining room at our craftsman lake house?) so it’s no surprise to me that a lantern would be among one of the first lighting purchases I would make for our new home. In this post I’ll be sharing the new light I ordered for my own bedroom!
As part of my “A Lovely January” home challenge, I have been on the hunt for a new ceiling light for our bedroom. I shared my bedroom design plans here (and UPDATE: see more progress on my bedroom here!). I’m using mostly what we have in the room, but I always like to switch out ceiling lights when we move to a new home as it’s such a simple way to bring instant style and your own personality to a space. You can see our current ceiling light above.
Lighting choices can help define or steer your style in the direction you want it to go. I debated many types of ceiling lights for our room. Our new home is definitely a “beach house”. It was originally designed to be similar to the feel of homes in Nantucket and we look out over a view of the sea, as well as are in walking distance of the beach. But no matter where I’ve lived, I’ve brought a “coastal” vibe to my home as a love of the sea has always been a part of my life. In this house we will carry our style with us and mix it with the architecture of this particular home.
When I stumbled on this lantern I decided it was a perfect statement light for our room. I wanted something fresh but still old world feeling, classy but not fancy, timeless yet striking. While I love brass or black lanterns, the navy finish gave this a beachy flair that I loved that it was paired with the classic and timeless look of brass. (There is also a white or an iron finish option, you can see them both here). I’m excited about the fresh statement it will make in our room. It will bring the mood we love in a house by the sea (as well as complement the style direction we are going with the rest of the home!)
I love all of the finish options, but navy felt like the right choice for our room. As soon as mine arrives I will of course take photos and show you the new look of the room!
In the meantime, here is the lantern shown in other finishes and inspiration rooms!
I’m so excited for it to arrive–I’ll be sure to update you when it does! :)
