I thought I would share a few recent updates from the Snug! Some of these I’ve shared with my newsletter friends already (are you subscribed yet?), but there are a few new additions in here, too.

One of my favorite parts of decorating are the little changes that only happen over time—it’s not fast and flashy but there is something rewarding about waiting to find the right piece, rearranging pieces you’ve loved for years, or finally hanging something that’s been waiting a long time for just the right spot.

Home takes time! But it’s really is those small changes over time that make a room feel the most personal. I love a home that is layered with meaning so it tells a story (YOUR story!). I think that’s what makes it a place of connection, comfort, and belonging.

Here are a few updates in the Snug lately…

When we first moved in five years ago I used these shelves to hold copies of the books I wrote (which I used for giveaways) but this year I decided to make this room more of a priority so I was finally ready to restyle the shelves. I found two beautiful seascape canvases on Etsy–this one and this one. I loved the colors and whimsy these pieces brought to the shelves!

I also hung two of my vintage blue and white platters here (I shared more about those here). I used my usual plate hanging method with these heavy duty hangers and these nails. (Read more about how I hang plates on the wall here).

We had bought these gingham scalloped daybeds with the trundles.a few months ago. After rearranging other pieces in the room we got these put together and couldn’t be happier with how they look here.

They really make this room feel so cozy, always an inviting spot to curl up with a book, take an afternoon nap, or to welcome guests who are spending the night.

I got these white quilts for them. They are not only really soft but perfect for keeping the bed clean with our dogs who have decided these beds were definitely placed here for them haha.

We’ve spent quite a bit of time this year doing all of the non-glamorous projects that every room seems to need first…like taking down old artwork, patching nail holes, touching up paint (we are going to repaint at some point, probably next year), and just thinking about what we could put on the walls took time , too! All part of the process!

One of my favorite changes is actually something very old!

We hung a mismatched pair of vintage oars (paddles?) that we’ve owned for years. You might remember seeing them before, they’ve been in our previous homes for years. I’ve always loved their patina and how they quietly tell a story.

We hung one oar on each side, and I love how simple they are while adding warmth and texture.

We mounted them with these leather loops.

When choosing accessories or wall art I try to be mindful of what tells a story and adds visual interest versus what just adds visual clutter.

Of course, decorating is so personal so these decisions will reflect the lives of the people who live there and what inspires them.

On the other side of the room, we recently got this Frame TV with the wood frame during a sale, and I’m so glad we did. Our old TV was definitely due for an upgrade, and I had no idea how much better the picture quality could be! Of course, my favorite part is how beautifully it blends into the room. Instead of looking like a big black screen, it feels like part of the decor. I’ve been having so much fun changing the artwork we display on it!

It now sits over our antique Chinoiserie cabinet that my grandparents brought home from overseas.

Because we don’t have room for lamps there, I ordered these sconces for either side of the TV (obsessed with the shades, I can’t wait for them to arrive!).

Our little cozy bednook is still in this corner, we love it here.

This washable rug has been perfect for this room.

Coming Soon…

There’s still more happening in in The Snug!

We have a new sofa on the way that I can’t wait to share when it arrives next month!

I’m also planning to hang a vintage quilt (my great grandma’s!) above the sofa as textile art. I’ve had it for so many years and have never displayed it, so I ordered this curtain rod to show it off as art!

I also ordered new bamboo shades for this room that I’m really excited to see.

I’ll share the updates to the whole room and how it all turns out once everything arrives.
