How often have we all said we wish we had the opportunity to just slow down to be more present in our life, to have more time with our family or to focus on our home? This unprecedented moment in time is our collective invitation to do our best with what we’ve been given. Let’s make beauty out of ashes.

We can use this season of “social distancing” to better nurture ourselves, body mind and soul. We have the chance to be more present and intentional. To nurture an atmosphere of faith over fear in our family and our home. It is an opportunity for all of us to practice being a good human, to sacrifice, serve and selflessly take care of others, too.

In Washington state, we are being told to retreat to our home for the good of everyone. The schools and restaurants have been ordered to close. Public gatherings are not allowed. For the collective good, we have to create a refuge in the chaos of the world. But let’s turn that phrase around. We get to create a refuge in this world. Retreating to our home and taking care of our family and the community around us is an opportunity to bring good to a not-good situation.

Never would I have dreamed as I wrote the words in my book Dwelling that a homebody life would become a necessary way of life for so many of us in this season.

Never would I have imagined as I shared creative ways to gather your family at home or talked about the importance of building relationships or finding online communities that these practices would become more valuable and timely than ever before.

But here we are in March 2020. This is not the homebody life any of us imagined, but it’s what we’ve got. Let’s make the best of it!

While taking the homebody life seriously for a bit might help slow the spread of this virus, we don’t have to let it slow the spread of joy or hope or positivity or friendship or kindness or community.

A week ago I felt inspired to bring our community together in a special way for this season. Today, you are invited to our newest “inspired room” community called The HomeBody Gathering place.

UPDATE NOVEMBER 2022:

As we are all aware, the world took some difficult and stressful twists and turns in and following the season where we extended this invitation.

In March 2020 we opened The Homebody Gathering Place during the initial quarantine. We expected that after “two weeks to flatten the curve” life would return to normal.

Of course, that isn’t what happened.

As so much around us unraveled and went from bad to worse, the time and focus we had planned to use to lead this impromptu group quickly became impossible for us to handle. It was difficult to know what to do in those trying times, but the heart we had to lead a special community has remained.

While we all went through so many unexpected events over the past two and a half years (and in many ways the challenges continue) we are SO EXCITED to be at a place where we can return our focus to creating community.

We are excited to recreate The Homebody Gathering Place, with the same name, but this time in an affordable subscription format. There will be a structure in place that will be sustainable for us to offer exclusive benefits for every member! We will host fun community activities, regular teaching, group challenges, courses and more. This will be a wonderful new private community unlike any we’ve ever had before.

The (new) HomeBody Gathering Place is NOW OPEN for registration for a limited time! A cozy place for fellow inspired room HomeBodies who want to create sanctuary for their family.

Join the all new HomeBody Gathering Place today HERE (registration open for a limited time!).

(Note: I know this is such a difficult time. Everyone is in different circumstances and experiencing unique challenges–my heart and prayers go out to everyone. This is one small way I’m choosing to make the best of it, and if this benefits you in any way we would love to have you a part.)

We might be at home for an indefinite period of time, but we don’t have to feel lonely in our corner of the world! We are all in this together.

Come hang out with friends in all of the places The Inspired Room women gather as a community! We love hanging out with you right here on The Inspired Room blog and on The Inspired Room Instagram stories each day. But you are also invited to join any or all of our three private communities.

Our state is also having the same shutdowns. I am feeling isolated and frustrated. Thank you for reaching out.

Baking bread and gardening in Oregon. Sorry, can’t join your Facebook community because I refuse to support the fact that they take the profits by supporting lying and deception. Love your blog and am content with all you bring to our lives with your joy and encouragement.
    Thank you,’

I’m a homebody every day so this is not too new to me. Hubby and I do normally take Sunday evening out as our day but I guess we will cook or order delivery for awhile. I hear Lani above as FB is frustrating and politics has been a huge cloud over our heads way too much lately. A good puzzle, avoiding the tv news plus a good walk with my pups helps me take my mind off of the craziness of these times. I have faith in people..most people that is so I know we will get back to a much calmer existence soon. Loving the blog Melissa and the texts. I can’t afford to buy a lot of extras at this time but I do find ways to live healthier without chemicals and the advice is so helpful. Flower planning is my go to as well.

I’m so glad you’re hanging out with us here, Lori! Avoiding a constant stream of bad news (I only follow positive groups and people on Facebook!) and just doing things in general that are uplifting to my heart and soul is my plan, too! <3
