{Falling For Fall: Day One} The Evolution of Autumn

Welcome to the 6thannualFallnestingseries!!!!!

Can you even believe it? Fall is HERE! The air at night is starting to feel crisp and cool at our house. Leaves are turning a bit and soon we’ll be nestled in by the fire all snug as a bug under a cozy blanket with a warm drink in hand and a book on our lap! Right? It is going to be awesome. High fives all around, Fall lovers, it’s time for 31 Days of Falling for Fall.

And that means FALLING IN LOVE with your home! WOO HOO! **Update: Stay tuned below for the entire list of the 31 day series!

{Falling For Fall: Day One} The Evolution of Autumn

I adore the evolution of the seasons, especially when it is Fall. Little bit by little bit, layer by layer you sense it coming. It is is comforting and gives me so much to look forward to! I can grow tired of too much sameness, so the process of slowly evolving the seasons in my home is something that keeps me creatively energized and in love with life! I’m loving the remaining sunshine but equally loving the cooler nights.

{Falling For Fall: Day One} The Evolution of Autumn

Slow evolutions of the seasons work best with my life. There is less stress trying to “arrive” at Fall and more delight in the process of getting there, one pine cone and cozy blanket at a time.

Other than my velvety plush pumpkins on the mantel, and maybe mums on the porch or a bowl of apples and pine cones on my table, my actual “fall decor” is pretty minimal. If fact,  if I set a real pumpkin out on the porch by October 31 and it is CARVED? I feel like a fall decorating rock star.

{Falling For Fall: Day One} The Evolution of Autumn

I love Fall with all my heart and really have always had more fun with the subtle touches and nods to the season than I do with the crafty or themed sides of holidays.

Fall is a season I want to sense and feel rather than be bombarded with through theme decor or too many expectations in my home. That’s just my style — too much decor or stuff in my house just overwhelms me. I love to add subtleties of texture and warmth. I love the nesting process and the cozification of my home.

It’s an evolution I look forward to every single year.

I do like simple natural fall decor! These inspiration photos from Better Homes & Gardens inspired me.

{Falling For Fall: Day One} The Evolution of Autumn

As I’ve shared in previous years, this series is about contentment and creating the authenticwarmmeaningful from the-inside-out-kind of home I start to crave this time of year. I love nestling in and making our home more comfortable and more functional for the winter ahead.

It’s a pretty simple approach to Fall, but I like it that way. The busier the world gets and the more the internet spins with projects and 101 ideas for things I could do if I was more awesome or needed another project, the more I want to retreat into my own world and fluff up my nest in my own way! Ha! Life can be so busy, the Fall Nesting series is about intentionally enjoying THIS season.

In past years I’ve been so distracted by moving, remodeling or even other more important priorities that I just wasn’t as able to immerse myself in Fall as much as I wanted to.

{Falling For Fall: Day One} The Evolution of Autumn

Even as busy as we are, this year will hopefully be the most peaceful and settled Fall we’ve had since we’ve lived in Washington!

I really am looking forward to Fall nesting with you all and finding all the ways we can fall a little more in love with our homes!

The best weather, beautiful color and great food. What is not to love about fall? The end to yard work and time to nest.

It felt like autumn here in Yorkshire for the first time yesterday – we even got the log fire going, one of my favourite things about this time of year!

Melissa…this post is filled with delicious fall eye candy! I’m feeling inspired already. :)
I almost didn’t join in the series. After packing and storing and “moving” to another state, I was behind in my coastal series. And yes, I was determined to finish the series by the end of this week. But then Saturday came, and the most beautiful fall weather imaginable. I guess those coastal posts are just going to have to take a back seat. Today I joined in the fun. My posts will be from a bit of a crazy perspective as we’re living with friends right now and her style isn’t exactly mine. But…the creative thinking cap will go on and so will my desire to nest for fall. :)
    Happy Fall!!!

    MELISSA,
You are singing my song for Fall. I too, love the senses of Fall more than a thematic decorated room. I am just now starting to make some changes for the Season. Today I started with adding my new Fall/Winter pillows. A little more textural and touches of black are what helps add warmth to my family room. If you have a chance come by my blog today to see the first step to adding a bit of Fall to my room,
    Happy Monday,
    Kathysue

I’m looking forward to fall nesting – although I love summer, I love the changing seasons, too. I don’t go all out but add little touches here and there. Orange isn’t my color at all, so a little goes a looooong ways. Thanks for this post!

wonderful pictures Melissa! these just make my heart happy.
growing up, Fall was always the season I most looked forward to and everyone said “are you crazy? cool and rainy?” yep, you know that’s right. what could be better than breaking out the snuggly blankies and hot drinks, building a crackling fire, heading out to the big game every Friday night…I love every single minute of it.
