I have always had a “thing” for gallery walls. Gallery Walls are a fancy way to describe a collage or collection of art and or photos used to decorate your walls. I like them all haphazard, I like them neat and tidy. I like them fresh and modern or old and traditional. In my opinion, there is really no “right way” to do a gallery wall. You can use all frames, you can mix in objects, use mirrors or any combination that tickles your fancy.
You can use frames that are the same size, or be eclectic and use a variety of sizes and shapes.
Remember the pretty orange gallery wall? I loved that it was fresh and pretty, and instead of framed photos there were framed objects.
I like the crispness of a black and white gallery wall, or the prettiness of various colored frames! So many options!

There is no rule about how many items to use in a gallery wall (although I check with Sarah from Sarah Bohl Designs while on Twitter and she said 7 would be a good minimum number for a gallery wall). The more items the more gallery-ish, I think!
You can go crazy if you want to! Gallery walls can look modern and fun, old world and quirky, or perfectly sophisticated. That is probably what I love most about them, they give you a chance for your PERSONALITY to shine through!
You can hang frames on the walls, put them on a ledge or hang them from string! Here are some inspiring Gallery Wall ideas from Creative Mama!
You can use big and little items together, let them be hung all crooked or make them level and straight!
You can hang art without frames mixed with art in frames.
I’ve shared quite a few inspiration pictures, but really, there are infinite ideas for gallery walls! Don’t be limited by what you see in photos, be creative!
One of my recent favorite gallery walls was from Young House Love, I shared it on Facebook awhile back. They offer a tutorial for How to Create Your Own Gallery Wall which is really helpful, or you can forgo all the tutorials and instructions and just start hanging!
Want to create your own gallery wall?
Need more inspiration? Or do you have a gallery wall ready to show off? Well one week from today we are going to show off our gallery walls in a Gallery Wall Linky Party! Woot!
Thanks to Tricia from The Inspired Room Facebook page for the idea! You rock!
Everyone can play, no matter what style of Gallery Wall you have. And if you don’t have one, maybe this party will inspire one at your house! You can whip one up just for the occasion if you’d like!
Get ready, cause here it comes! Get your posts ready to link up next Wednesday April 6th. You can create a new post featuring your wall, or it is fine to link up an old post!
Be there!
Sounds great! Like I said this has been on my to do list forever!! I will check it off by next Wednesday!
I love gallery walls! All these wonderful pictures make me want to create one today :)
What a great idea. I have a couple of {minor} gallery walls but I’d love to see some of the inspiring ideas out there.
Sounds like a lot of fun and I will be here to see what everyone is doing. I’d just be asking for trouble with my OCD to have a gallery wall. I can’t stand crooked pictures and a wall full of them would drive me up a tree. ☺
Can’t wait for this great link-up party for one of my favorite design elements! Love the inspiration photos!
Great idea! I love gallery walls. And I’m looking for inspiration for a hallway. Can’t wait for the party!
How exciting! Gallery walls are at the top of my list of favorite things. I’ve been working on one in my living area for the past month or so, and will be sure to link up!
Yayyyy! One linky party I can participate in! I LOVE gallery walls!
I have a wall in my Living Room that has been waiting for me since before Christmas, now I have to get it done :-)
Thanks for the inspiration Melissa!

Wow very inspirational, I would love to create a gallery wall in my kitchen one day when there is time on my hands, soon hopefully!
Hi Melissa,
I’ve never met a gallery wall I didn’t love! I’ve never done a linky party, maybe I’ll try it. In any event, thanks for the inspiration!

Ooh, I can’t wait. I have so many photos in frames just littering our current place. I am looking forward to placing them into a more organized fashion on the walls in our new house.
Yay for gallery walls! We just moved into a new house, and I’m dying to do one. My husband sees it as clutter though. So I’ve given him 3 options, 2 are gallery walls, and the third is lining the tops of our bookcases (4 in a solid row) with frames. Granted I don’t have these frames yet, but I’m thinking yard sales and spray paint as a project this summer. I love the mix of different frames, but all in the same color. Can’t wait to see everyone else’s galleries!
What a great idea! I love gallery walls. No one is the same:)
Excited to see what everyone has out there – I’ll post mine too! I have a hall that needs doing but the painters won’t be finished by the 6th…but i certainly can get started! Thanks for the continued inspiration!
Oh, I love gallery walls and I can’t wait to put one up! Unfortunately I have to wait until after we move. :( I loved all the different styles you showed. I got some great ideas from it for a gallery in my daughter’s room with all her artwork.
Ohh… this is so inspiring Melissa. Love all the ideas!
a great linky idea. hopefully this will put fire under my seat!
I love the inspiration pics you picked!

I have one. I’m not sure I love it, yet, but it works and looks cohesive because all the frames are dark, even though it’s actually quite ecclectic.
I am in the process of making one, but it won’t be done before the party. I look forward to seeing what people have done.
I love love you for doing the gallery wall linky party. I was so inspired by YHL and Sawdust & Paper Scraps to do a gallery wall in my stairwell. I just bought more frames (I started with a collection of black) and now I am stuck. I can’t decide if I want to keep them black or mix it up with multiple colors or paint them white. I think I am going to just throw them on the wall and deal with it later ;).
I already attempted a gallery wall in my entryway and I am pleased with how it came out.
Love this post! I had set pictures aside to start a gallery wall a couple of weeks ago but have not done it yet because I wondered if I could mix and match different frame colors. It gave me the courage after seeing the pictures you posted that this would be alright to do. Thanks again! Love your blog, my favorite read!
If you lived next door, I’d run over and give you a big ole southern bear hug! BECAUSE, this will make me put the finishing touches on the one I’ve started. You already know I was inspired by the post w/ the orange frames, w/ shells showcased. That’s what got me started, now this post will get me FINISHED! THANK YOU DEAR MELISSA! {{{{HUGS}}}} Just needed that little nudge to get back on track w/ my project, & complete it.
I’ve been wanting to do a gallery wall! I just need to find the right items to go on it. It will be fun to see what everyone comes up with!
I’ve been getting together frames for a gallery wall, sometimes you read my mind. I love all the pictures, and I hope you are planning on doing a gallery wall yourself. Cant wait to see everyones pictures.
Wow this is perfect timing, I just posted that I’m going to do a gallery wall in the kitchen. Now the rain needs to stop so I can get outside and spray paint.
Just did my own gallery wall in my office nook over the weekend! cant wait to show it off! perfect timing!
I don’t have one but I want one! Can’t wait to be inspired!
Oh the pics you choose to highlight are great and truly inpirational. Now if someone could come over my house and do it for me. LOL. I can’t wait to see what others have done.
How fun! I love those inspiration pictures too, getting my post ready :) can’t wait to share and see what others have going!
Loved the table decor featured on Censational Girl’s blog!
I’ve been trying to figure out how to make a gallery wall in my living room (it’s too big a wall just for one or two things) starting with my kids’ portraits. Having three (soon to be four) kids, I haven’t been able to figure out how to group the frames, but maybe I just need to add several more items – to reach seven! I’ll try it!
Yeah! I’m gonna need that gallery wall linky next week for some ideas!! I’ve hung one several months ago and am STUCK as what to put around it!! arranging is not my forte!
I keep saying I’m gong to create a gallery wall. I have enough frames to make a gallery wall. I just don’t have the time to make a gallery wall. I bought this book of 50 black and white photos of houses. May be one from each state. They are incredible, but I doubt I will have finished that before next Wednesday. Has to be your own images on the post right?
I am all ready. :)
Fondly,
Glenda
I’m getting my gallery wall ready to share on Wednesday! Can’t wait to see the others.
I can’t wait to have my own gallery wall. I bought a stack of frames months ago and have been waiting to move into our new house we are renovating. Once the walls have been painted )and the dust from the renovating settles!!), I will be creating a gallery wall. Thanks for the inspiration!
