Decorating the Anthropologie Way
This quilt made my mouth drop to the floor.
Fabulously unique and fresh and wonderful.
And those pillows? I’m in love.
Even the simple iron bed itself gave me a new appreciation for my own classic iron bed, something I already have!
Anthropologie always reminds me that there are many creative options for how to decorate your home, when you open your mind to see them. You might even have just the right piece in your own home or linen closet if you look around at not only what is popular, but create what is POSSIBLE!

When I was poking around Anthropologie online looking at all the wonderful bedding, I stumbled across a fun new game. It is a mix and match bedding tool. Kind of like a game.
Oh dear, they know me so well!

Anthropologie always lures me in…one way or another and before I know it, I’m IN, drowning in the wonder and beauty of what might be, if I look past what IS to what might be created if I picked up this and put it with that.

So I’ll admit, I played with the Anthropologie bedding game for quite awhile. Click, click, click … every time the combinations looked deliciously different. Textures and colors and patterns, oh my!
And each time I clicked, I was reminded that this decorating process, this mixing and matching and finding your own unique style, isn’t really any more difficult than being brave and fearless enough to try something you haven’t seen before or to put things together in a fresh new way.
It might take a little more time to wander through shops mixing and matching on a budget, you might have to patiently collect unique things you find over time, you might even have to dig into your own linen closet or your grandma’s cedar chest rather than shopping online or in your local stores.
You can create a style all your own and mix and match with any budget or no budget at all.
You just have to be brave enough to try something different.
Go play the Anthopologie game. You’ll see how much fun it is!
Do you embrace creativity and personal style as a fun challenge, or does the idea of trying something unique scare you?
PS. My blog is undergoing a little spring makeover so I do apologize if things are a bit wonky for a bit …

4 Decorating Lessons from Anthropologie
I love mixing in stuff from my grandma with things I’ve found along the way at shops, garage sales, auctions. Nothing better than old and new, a surprise here and there!
I like things that are one of a kind, like thrift store finds or garage sale stuff. Anthro is a little too bohemian for me, I like eclectic but not always in the anthro way, does that make sense? I prefer vintage rustic with a splash of modern fabrics or lighting to keep it feeling surprinzimg and chic. Thanks for showing us this cool tool though!
Yes it makes sense! I get inspiration from Anthro’s way of mixing but then I take the idea and translate it to things I love!
I love your ideas! Mixing up the colors and styles are amazing
Count me in…I’m a “mixer-upper” … especially the “Ralph Lauren” bedding…some of mine is twenty years old and has the softness and patina of an “old friend.” :) franki
I love the way YOU see possibility and would love to hang out with you as you browsed/shopped. That would be inspiring!
Yes, I like to ‘think’ I’m creative, not so sure I pull if off.
Hi Melissa,
I love seeing creative, daring designs…I don’t think out of the box for myself! :-) You’re right, people should be brave and try mixing things up.

I’m seriously loving every single spread on here!
Hi Melissa
Greetings from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
It’s 2 am and I’m wide awake.
Jet lagged.
Just got back from Scandinavia.
Stumbled onto your blog…how lovely and insightful!
You’re definitely not challenged in any way.
Keep up the great work and stay creatively fabulous!!!
Yes, yes, yes! I love, love, love!!!! I am all about personal style. When someone walks into my home, I want them to think, “this is definitely Melissa & Bart’s house.” Not, this could be a ___ ______ catalog. Great post.
oh i completely love antro and my blog is full of ‘a la anthropologie’ articles!

love all this and completely agree! Style is “easy” now! Yuo don’t have to specially match anything! I love the look
Love that tool on Anthro’s website! Those first white pillowcases are a dream.
I love mixing patterns and color combinations and mixing the old and the new! So much more fun than all new matchy-matchy perfection!
I love trying out different things.. And mix and match is a great way as well.. Thanks for this!
I love creating a mix and match look with top sheets. I have only 2 fitted sheets – and lots of top sheets and pillow cases. I can buy super pretty top sheets – on clearance – and avoid expensive matched sets. plus, I love the look.
How fun. You had me at the first shot of that lovely mellow yellow spread (smile).

I spent almost 2 hours in their Boston area store last week and made myself leave. Dangerous place that is for my wallet :) hehe. My latest inspiration is from a napkin I saw in there….the fabric is in the mail so we’ll see how my brainstorm plays out! ha. Love that store.
