It wouldn’t be fall in the house if we didn’t invite in the good scents of the season. Am I right? Some people go window shopping just to look at things, but I like going around the store to all the candles and smelling each one. I’m sure I’m a salesclerk’s worst nightmare, touching and smelling everything in sight.
My girls and I were in Anthropologie a few days ago and nearly caused a huge calamity trying to smell some adorable little candles in glass jars that were piled high in a wood cubby. Now, it wasn’t our fault that the candles were stacked so precariously to begin with, but you know, the fact that we were pulling them out to smell them was a little risky. Worth it, though, all around.
I brought home a new “Sweet Vanilla Cinnamon” candle (#2, above) that has been a favorite for awhile now. I love the jar just as much as the scent!
Making a house smell delicious makes me feel a little more cozy this time of year!
Update: Come see a more natural way to scent your home so it smells delicious all year round!
I agree; scented candles add an extra layer of coziness to nesting in the Fall. They are instantly responsive, lifting the senses and wrapping a room on those grey days of the season, like a warm, comfy sweater. I too am partial to Vanilla and Cinnamon for my home and I also like to have some ‘Salted Caramel’, ‘Café au Lait’ and ‘Cannelle-Orange” around.
I could just picture you now brings a smile to my face thanks for sharing….love candles too especially soy such a nice scent and last so long & clean burning…blessings…
Amber Musk from Pier One is my go to right now – not too sweet or overpowering. The candle shelf is my first stop on a Marshalls trip and I found a ‘Spooky’ scent there that I will put out next week. Love getting up early on the weekends, lighting a candle and settling in with my book and coffee before everyone gets up.
Favorite all time scent is Joanna Gaines’ Signature Scent from Magnolia Market! I’m pretty sure that is exactly what Heaven smells like…a mix of the best smelling man you ever smelled and clean laundry!
My favorite fall fragrance is Pumpkin Latte from Kringle Candle in Bernardston, MA. Their candles are subtle, not overpowering.
I can’t say if I have ever experienced vanilla/cinnamon, but it sounds wonderful. I agree that all the beautiful Fall scents make the house very cozy and warm Love your Blog
“Cinnamon Cider” by Aromatique is by far the BEST fall (and Christmas) scent I have ever come across, and I am a complete candle snob! ;-)
My second favorite is “Autumn Wreath” by Yankee Candle!
Candle #1 sounded very appealing but the two reviewers on Amazon say that their candle arrived without a wick. Neither Amazon nor the seller of the candle seems to have responded to these negative reviews. :(
I wonder if the candle is available from a seller that would respond & help in that situation.
I have to admit I am OBSESSED with candles at all times of the year. I tend to stock up when they are on sale so I always have a stash. I am loving the Daylights from Kringle Candle, that I put out in addition to some larger jar candles here and there. The Daylights are small and last only a couple of days but they are a fantastic and inexpensive way to try out new scents – plus they are in their own little containers (kind of like a large tea light) so you don’t have to scrub out a votive holder every couple of days. I drop the daylight right into a larger holder and we’re good to go!
My favorite fall scent for years has been Pumpkin Patch by Guild House (American Greetings). It smells like fresh pumpkin pies baking. And it was around $15 (not sure if they still make it–my candles last for several seasons because I only burn them for short periods). I was a little surprised to see that the candles you’re recommending are so expensive. I do believe in treating myself once in a while, but an $85 candle is waaaay out of reach. How about some suggestions under $25? I love your blog and look forward to going on a journey with you as you decorate your new home, but I just couldn’t help commenting on these pretty but pricey candles.
I love the Pumpkin Crunch scent from a locally owned shop called Cahoots Soap Co. in a small town nearby.
I can just see you girls trying to smell the candles in anthro ;-) I want to visit an anthropology sooo badly! I don’t think there’s one around here. My favorite fragrances are always spiced smells, and anything to do with pumpkin or spruce.
Try Sydney Hale’s Eucalyptus + Sage — it is my absolute favorite! I can’t find it anywhere here in the Bay Area, but they are wonderful to order from. It’s heaven!
Pretty candles! I love visiting my brother in South Beach and walking down to the Anthropologie store. Pretty, pretty, pretty! My favorite candle right now is Reserve/Fire. I bought it at The Market 2 here in Springfield.
I love Village candles because when they burn they scent is just as lovely. My favorite for Fall is Crisp Apple. I love candles all year round and change the scent for the season.

Love your blog and heart.
Have you every considered diffusing essential oils instead of candles. I LOVE candles, but with 2 little ones at home I’m a little nervous. I love switching the diffuser on in the morning before the kids get up with a couple of drops of an oil that is an immune booster, maybe something citrus-y added and also an oil that helps with focus. I change the oils up constantly, depending on my mood/need :-). At night we put a more calming blend in. Just something to think about. Not only are you customizing your scent, but you are also deriving health and wellness benefits.
Wishing you much happiness in your new home.

Haha I love this post. I’m such a candle snob that I usually wait until I can visit an Anthro (or store like it) to get a new candle. This time of year my favorite candle scent BY FAR is anything with a balsam fir/pine/cedar smell in it that dominates. HANDS DOWN. Basically I want to feel like I wandered into a magical Christmas forest without leaving my house. You know that smell of a freshly assembled wreath? Yeah. It’s my jam. I could go on but I’d just keep repeating myself so I’ll spare you and instead go take a whiff of my Balsam pillar candle.
Love Love Love all the Paddywax candles!
Oh dear Anthropology, you get us everytime!
Wow, great scents, but not any budget choices. I love to splurge on Anthro, but I enjoy budget candles from Target, Homegoods, Kohl’s, etc. Target carries candles made by the same company that Anthro carries, but at 1/4 the price. Actually, I think I first read about that here?
@ Kitty A.: Can you say what is the brand of candles at Target made by the company that makes Anthropologie’s? Thanks!
Yes, PLEASE Kitty A, what is the brand name of the Anthro dupe candles?
Illume at Target is the same brand
