Life Lately: He's here!

He’s here! He’s here! Meet Forrest. My heart can hardly take in his sweetness! I’m so thankful he is healthy and in awe that I get to be a Grammie to this precious little guy. Mama and baby (and Daddy) are doing well!

Thank you for all of your prayers and excitement over the arrival of our first little grand babe and the beginning of a new chapter in our family and home.

Give me all your ideas for how to be the best Grandma I can be! Grand babe two is due this summer!

Read to him every opportunity you have. Your love will show as you read while holding him. Remember, there is no app like a grandparent’s lap.

congrats! he is beautiful. The best way to be a good grand mom is to not tell the parents what to do, unless they ask for advice. Having said that, you can have a definate affect on him by just being in his life, just you and him, walks, rides, love, passing some of your good advice onto him. That’s what grand mothers do!

I am only 11 months ahead of you in the grandparent journey. Just accept a lot has changed since we had our babies! And if your daughter is on the fence about the expensive Lovevery toys, as a pediatric SLP I am incredibly impressed with the quality and parent education on how to use the toys to stimulate visual skills and cognition, and later they target fine and gross motor skills. The quality is great so siblings and cousins will get to use them too!

Congratulations!!!! Love him, play with him, laugh with him, sing with him, hold him closely, pray over him, but most of all enjoy this precious little boy. I am blessed with 11 grandchildren each one is so different it is thrilling to just be able to watch them be who they are. Enjoy!

Here’s the best idea to be a good grandmother: It’s the last two lines of a poem I memorized decades ago:

Richer than I you will never be,
I had a mother (grandmother) who read to me.

Congratulations! He is so precious! I am so happy for your girls and their growing families. What a blessing!!!

I love the name Forrest! We considered it for our first, but with the last name Urke, we decided to not give him the initials FU! ha!

You have been great parents, I imagine you will be the best grandparents as well! Wishing you all the best and all the sweet baby snuggles.

Congrats now and for the future little one. Take lots of pictures & print them out into a book, maybe an annual edition. Make sure that you include all generations in the book. Consider making recordings of everyone, especially the great grandparents. But, don’t forget to update any digital info as the tech changes.

Depending on the health of all of the grandparents, if anyone buys a book for the kids, have them read it so the child can always have a memory of the relative.

Support your daughter and her husband in their new parenthood as much as you can. Respect their parenting values, honor their decisions. Offer your wisdom, but don’t criticize. Love the heck out of that baby. In the first months, bring meals, do laundry, encourage your daughter’s rest.Tell her often she is a wonderful mother. Boost her confidence in her exhaustion and insecurity. Your goal as a family is to raise a fine young man, so don’t over do with the treats and the fun. You’re all on the same team!
