Hey friends! I was thinking today that when I first started typing words into my computer almost a decade ago, I never imagined that I would be gathering such a wonderful community of friends. It’s just so fun to have such kindred spirits to share all things house and home with. If you are new here today I hope you’ll kick off your shoes, pull up a chair and make yourself at home.
Thank you for being a part of this circle of friends, whether you comment (which is my favorite!) or just visit silently and nod your head (or shake your head, as the case may be, haha!). If only I could meet up with each of you for coffee (or tea?) in real life!
Today let’s talk about decorating, shall we? Are you in stuck in a winter slump? Or has the arrival of spring inspired you?
If you are feeling a bit uninspired (and don’t want to spend a lot of money), what do you do?

Cleaning + moving my ‘stuff’ around boosts my decorating morale! It needs boosting right now, in fact!
I clean and edit things and declutter…that really inspires me and gets the decorative, creative juices flowing! ?
I love your analogy, over on Proverbs 31, of how creating beauty in our homes is like God creating beauty in us! Have a great day, Melissa!
I rotate my “pretties” (okay, Melissa, I may have a home dec hoarding issue, but I promise I DO use them and I DON”T use them all at once =) ) from room to room and season to season. I store them by color in clear bins so I know what I have. Right now, I have blue and white and clay going on in my foyer and dining room , and blue, white and orange in my living and kitchen. I confess to strong urges to move to my next color palette after only a couple of weeks, but I am determined to enjoy the space He has me in. (Some of my impatience is undoubtedly due to the physical challenges He is growing me through.) Thank you for your inspirations- both for our home and our Spirit!
Melissa, you are the first blogger I started following (a few years ago) – and I still enjoy every post! I love your style both in decorating and writing! Both of my adult daughters (near the ages of your daughters btw) follow you as well. Keep up the good work! You rock!
Thank you, Leah! I love when mamas and daughters both read, thank you for sharing. I’m so glad you enjoy the posts! Have a great day!
My mother is my all-time favorite mentor when it comes to decorating. She is talented both with home and personal style, always ahead of her time. The most important decorating trick I learned from her is rearranging furniture and swapping out accessories. When I was growing up, I observed that my mom rearranged furniture with some regularity. That was her no-cost solution to becoming bored with furniture and/or accessories. I learned to appreciate her sheer brilliance with design, colors, textures, styles. She loved to experiment. You remind me of her in many ways, Melissa. Cheers, Ardith
So sweet, thank you, Ardith.
When I need motivation, whether it be to do a spring clean in my house or garden, or I’m just in need of a refresh, I tend to go online to my favorite blogs (like yours!) for inspiration. After a little time spent in all of your beautiful worlds, I’m inspired to get up off my butt and get busy!
Love your home. Love your ideas. Love that you post your sources. I have 3 of your books. Your a wonderful inspiration and I always look forward to seeing new posts…I love to chalk paint furniture for friends and family and I have a few pieces i have painted for my home. I’ve always loved to decorate my house and i am the go person to help out friends and family decorate their homes…I’m reading your book now love the home you have….I find I’m always rearranging and changing and dreaming and that I have difficulty being content in my home, which isn’t always bad, but I want to find contentment….
What a thoughtful comment, April! Thank you so much.
It doesn’t take much to refresh! I sometimes just move things from room to room and I get a fresh look!
I just read your devotional and it was so good! These are a lot of the things I learned from reading Emilie Barnes many years ago!
I loved reading Emilie Barnes’s books, too! Thank you so much for reading the devotional, Deanna, and coming back to let me know.
